PURPOSE OF JOB: To direct, manage and coordinate the timely and effective company corporate accounting and financial reporting services/systems in accordance with company policy and legislative requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interprets company goals into department goals and ensures communication to employees.
Ensure the development, implementation, compliance with and maintenance of company financial accounting policies and systems in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards.
Analyses the company's financial position on a regular basis, based on business strategies, actual and forecast revenue/budget and provides reports with observations/recommendations to general management. Conducts research and analysis to support a variety of activities, such as risk analysis and assessment, financial performance and overhead projections.
Provides tax returns, insurance and other reports required by government regulations and deals with auditors, external accountants, and others on financial matters, as company spokesperson.
Provides financial expertise in the review and analysis of financial information for resource allocation, management of short-term cash flow, control and reporting, expenditure and revenue justification, and project costing.
Develops detailed financial plans and reports by collecting data, identifying financial goals and objectives, analyzing financial history and records, preparing financial tables, evaluating financial performance indicators, researching investment opportunities, and the like.
Recommends financial proposals concerning the strategic management of funds and cash flow, projections on accounts receivable and payable, short-term investment planning, insurance coverage, and retirement planning.
Liaises with investment brokers, trust officers, investment underwriters and mortgage brokers to investigate possible, viable sources of investing the company's funds.
Co-ordinates the preparation of annual and quarterly budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections to guide the financial management of the company.
Participates in shareholder relations activities, general financial planning and funds management, as required; may also be responsible for insurance and risk management.
Approves exceptions to policy after review and in-depth evaluation of various factors. Identifies whether such approval requires review by senior management.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in Commerce, Business Administration or a financial management discipline,
7 years (minimum) experience in general corporate accounting environment, ideally in the High Tech sector.
Certification in a recognized professional designation is required: CA or CGA or CMA
Broad knowledge of and ongoing awareness of accounting principles and regulations governing business accounting and taxation rules in Canada, USA, Europe and Asia.
Fluency in spoken & written: English & French
