Fast pace job, always something to do. Great work experience.
Cashier (Former Employee), Huntsville, TX – May 7, 2014
Pros: loved the graveyard shift.
Cons: i didn't get to stay on the shift i got hired for.
I usually worked graveyard shift so it wasn't so busy when I first went in on week days. There was always something to get done such as cleaning the grill and coffee pots, and making sure both stayed full. Flying J is a truck stop and it was the first truck stop that I had worked at. I enjoyed it until they switched me to day shift all of a sudden. – more... The hardest part was having so many people come in at once and being the only person in the front to check them out. They would complain but the manager was busy so I checked them out as fast as possible. One of my co-wokers would always come in late. It was the one that was suppose to relieve me. The most enjoyable part of the job is that It never interfered with my home life. – less

I learned from Flying J that Body Language is everything and even when your having a bad put a smile and it will literally go away.. Your job and Home are two different places you can't act a certain way because of what happen at home Let it go and get to work
On your feet kind of job with different tasks each day
Cashier (Former Employee), San Antonio, FL – March 27, 2014
Pros: great starting ground for those who are fast learners
Cons: i don't remember any benefits, but the company has changed since i worked there.
I worked in the C-Store side. Each day I worked there, I was assigned to a different task from small to large. This, being my first job, I loved learning how much I want a career that provided me this kind of work environment. I had loved being given a different task that I could complete within my shift's allotted time each day. The crew was friendly – more... and the GM I had at the time was really nice which made me not as nervous. The hardest part of the job would definitely have to be customer service. This is because of such the variety of people that I would aid, I wouldn't know the needs I would need to meet. Some of them were none of my control but some were easy as pie! The most enjoyable part of the job was having a team of people teach me everything I needed to know which gave me a great outlook on work. This caused me to have a love for my job rather than only doing my tasks for the paycheck. Which in-turn, caused my tasks to be finished with my best effort rather than what I felt like doing. – less

Cashier (Current Employee), North East, MD – March 3, 2014
Pros: break time
As a cashier you are expected to maintain a list of things, most of which you can not do while being the only cashier while the store is busy. You are expected to pay for all of your food and/or drink, however you are provided with one 50% off discount on only certain items, and only when you are on the clock. The lower management are not hard to get – more... along with, however the higher management seems to be unfair towards certain workers. The best part of the job is that you receive two ten minute breaks along with one 30 minute break. – less
Cashier/ Sales Associate (Former Employee), Sulphur Springs, TX – February 18, 2014
Pros: discounts on lunches
Cons: short breaks if any, short lunches, ever changing schedule
While this is a very fast paced job there is not a whole lot of support from management. Breaks are few and short while lunch is only 30 minutes. Manager asks for certain tasks to be done but does not give the wherewithal to implement them. Schedule changes all week long insure you never know when or if you are working. Very difficult place to work. – more... Loved the clientele and other team members. – less
