Good place to work... Excellent training & workshops provided. You need to be an independent worker as you are alone quite often. There is support for you in the form of online libraries & workshops. Benefits are ok- could be better for an insurance company.
One of the best places to learn the insurance business. Terrific training. You learn alot about the way coverage works and how to sell. The downside is that you compete against brokers who represent dozens of other companies. Federated is a very small and increasingly less relevant player in the industry. Many others insurers now happily write what had been served largely by federated for decades. Strict underwriting inhibits sales. Underwriters often work against rather than with the agent. Great place to learn... Gets a bit stagnant after awhile after oppty's dwindle and underwriters kill the fun.
Live and die by the underwriters' conservative pen. No choice as you have when working as a broker.
I was placed in one department during the month assisting the insurance adjusters by pulling files, "building" property evaluations by transfering information from the prior year to a new form, and calculating the rate worksheets for policy renewals using a binder or information regarding the property location, size, availablity of fire hydrants and fire stations.
