Lack of leadership
Shipper (Current Employee) –  Winnipeg7 February 2017
Worked here awhile and shift supervisors have their head up their you know what 99.9% of the time. They punish pickers by suspending/terminating them if they don't make quotas. Heads up, don't work overtime if you pick orders....if you don't pick production you will be suspended....even though they basically beg you to stay and help out. Management rewards the "retards" and expect the good employees to carry them. Within the last 5 yrs it's has become a Filipino hang out, no white people get hired anymore, then they learn the ropes and mysteriously get hurt when their production is down.
Pros
Union, benefits, pension
Cons
Dumb management, Filipino heaven

worst management ever
Material Handler (Current Employee) –  Winnipeg, MB15 March 2015
Worst management. Very poor management. Supervisor and manager of warehouse treat employee like no better. They don't have manner and dont know how to talk employee. Integrity, ethics and honest word are not for this guys.looking for overtime they got it but you have to meet the quota unless you get suspended or worst terminated. No summer no long weekend. Free food (soon to expire) asking for opinion but will not consider will take as criticism.
Pros
good benefit in the long run. increase 6mon
Cons
got stock with the position long time.

Material Handler (Former Employee) –  Winnipeg, MB16 January 2015
After working very hard everyday they will treat you as trash. they will let you work your probationary period then before your 6 month or if they don't need you at all they will find a way to kick you out even though you're doing well, they do take suggestion as complain, union don't care at all. Some old employee being pushed to quit their job by finding mistakes.
Pros
good co-worker
Cons
poor management

Great people, terrible bosses
Cashier (Former Employee) –  Wetaskiwin2 September 2014
Fellow employees were wonderful to work with, however management suffered from a "Boss" mentality, they were happy to dictate work and then hide in their offices. Not a Leadership mentality to the management. Training through FCL's on-line site was limited and while supposed to be offered for all staff; convenient excuses were made.

Management is very backhanded. Fine place to work if you are okay with "going along to get along" and understanding that there is a two tier system in regard to who has to follow store policies and procedures.
Pros
Great fellow employees
Cons
Horrible management

Large and dynamic employer with varied opportunities
Executive Secretary - Legal Affairs Division (Former Employee) –  Saskatoon, SK6 September 2012
While employed with FCL I was able to expand my skills and perform tasks I would not have had an opportunity to do in the legal profession. I worked with senior executives and enjoyed assisting them with speech writing, meeting agendas and travel itineraries. There were approx. 300 people employed in the building and it was rewarding to work for a company where everyone enjoyed going to work. There were certainly challeges involved when we were preparing for the Annual General Meeting where over 300 delegates from 4 provinces came to Saskatoon for a 4 day meeting that also had a training aspect to it.
Pros
large and progressive company
Cons
still working on replacing antiquated systems

Not a great workplace to grow old in.
Millhand (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB8 October 2014
The job is not bad. The supervisor made it terrible he pushed and whined and bitched almost everyday. The worst part is playing double standard like watching you every minute when you take your lunch and made sure you don't exceed one minute. Meanwhile, his "favorites" can sit for hours in the lunch room talking about hockey, football, sunshine girl, etc. and he didn't seem to notice it. As a matter of fact he was with them lots of times. The terrible part is if you are not a favorite, he wouldn't care if you have a break or not. He will just give you a list of what you should do without consideration about your need for breaks! I felt like a slave. Only having a break when it is already home time. And if a certain feed is needed urgently and it wasn't made on time because the mill cannot handle well the ingredients in it and kept on breaking down, it will be your fault. You will be made to feel guilty like getting paid for very little work done as if it was really your fault.
Pros
Under "normal/fair supervision" it would have been a good job.
Cons
The plant is full of mice, there are droppings in every corner, Equipment are outdated too, It rains lots in there, Rain of wheat, barley, corn, canola meal, etc. leak everywhere.
