I tried the reserve program only to find if something sounds to good to be true it probably is.
Agent in Reserve program (Former Employee), Colorado Springs, COAugust 6, 2014
During my training, Farmers went through some reorganization so I had to start over 3 times. Since this was commission only, I could not live on commission only. So I went back to my roots to work for an Agent.

Pros: good benefits, flexible
Cons: pay, opportunities
Farmers is a good company to work for because they are flexible, fun and have good benefits. There aren't as many opportunities as there should be.

Solid and Secure Company
Claim Adjuster / Claim Management Training Program (Former Employee), Simi Valley, CAAugust 5, 2014
Farmers is one on the largest insurance companies. They have a strong competitive advantage because of the strength of their company. Farmers has a solid business plan and has instituted a strong training and employee relationship program which allows their employees to feel secure and at ease.

Because of the size of the company, at times, employees – more... can become somewhat confused about policies and practices.

Positively, at Farmers enjoy the opportunity of growth and to transfer to other departments to continually learn new job skills. Farmers is very much a company that believes to promote people within their company. – less

Enjoyable workplace helping customers with any questions regarding their bill or insurance policy. Management was great never had any problems, always worked as a team to meet our weekly sale goals.
I learned a lot coming in as a entry level customer service and marketing specialist, and my interest for insurance grew greatly, perhaps make it into a – more... career. – less

Disapointment
reserve agent (Former Employee), Burleson, TXAugust 2, 2014
Pros: opportunity for financial wellness
I feel like my district manager allowed me to to get into an industry before I was ready which lead to financial situations I'm dealing with 2 years later. I feel all 'reserve' agents should be placed into an agency for 6 months to a year before starting on their own. The Farmers name and what they stand for is a good thing. I believe in the products – more... and claims services to be among the very best, I just wasn't prepared to be an agent at the time. – less

In-house Insurance Defense Trial Attorney (Current Employee), San Bernardino, CAJuly 28, 2014
I am passionate about the law and enjoy being a lawyer. This company remains profitable and continues to grow which places a heavy burden on the lawyers to act in the capacity as an administrator. Consequently, this takes away from my ability to practice law. The cases are interesting and my colleagues are fantastic. I am exposed to and responsible – more... for all aspects of litigation including trial work which is my favorite part about being a lawyer but is unfortunately where I spend the least amount of my time. – less

I absolutely love working for Farmers Union Insurance. I wish there was a Farmers Union office in Tucson for when I move down there in August! I really enjoy keeping busy and multitasking, so this was the perfect job for me. Working here really made me realize how much I love working and interacting with customers while helping them to the best of my – more... abilities. I now have a goal to become an insurance agent myself some day because of the positive experience I've had here! – less

Insurance Sales Representative (Former Employee), Jacinto City, TexasJuly 28, 2014
Pros: great hours, long lunches
Cons: no benefits.
Lots of filing, answering phones, and data entry. I learned a great deal of customer service. Management was OK, could have been better organized at this particular office. The hardest part of the job was learning the system and finding out the best option for the customer. The most enjoyable part of the job was satisfying the customer by finding them – more... the best deals. – less

A good company to work for
Claims Coverage Specialty Team (Current Employee), Olathe, KsJuly 26, 2014
Pros: catered in lunch, open door policy
Cons: the company is restructuring their systems, and it is a hectic work enviroment, with limited options for advancement
Starting in the call center, you must prove yourself able to take on any other role in the company. There is room for advancement, but mostly as a casualty adjuster in the auto side if you don't have any previous experience.

Agency Producer/Owner (Former Employee), Scottsdale, AZJuly 20, 2014
Pros: flexible work hours. you pretty much keep your own hours. work with nice people.
Cons: not going to make much the first year or two. and, you are only as good as what you sell. need to meet quota each quarter, so may require a great deal of time and effort to achieve that.
Great job. Management was great and very friendly. Everybody worked with you and most people were very helpful. Typical day included lots of cold-calling, communicating via internet with potential clients, and networking. Hardest part of the job was being able to meet your quota each quarter. Most enjoyable part of the job was working with lots of different – more... people and learning a great deal about the insurance and financial services industry. – less
