Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) – Kanata, ON – 16 June 2017
While working at Farm Boy it was very fun. The management is very easy going and understanding so it makes your work experience less frustrating. The job requirements were very straight forward and even if you needed help you could easily ask your manager and they would be more then willing to help.
Department Manager (Former Employee) – London, ON – 1 June 2017
I tend to read most negative and angry reviews as disgruntled ex employees who didnt get their way. This is not one of those situations.
I decided to resign from the hostile work environment which included people being belittled and bullied by upper management and department specialists.
For a company that talks the talk, they do not walk the walk. I truly believe what was started in Ottawa is probably fantastic but with their upper management and specialists it did not work for them in South western Ontario.
Don't even try to stand up for yourself because the regional manager will stand by his specialists regardless and doesn't care to hear any feedback.
Generally speaking a lot of the staff are fantastic and have great potential but Farm Boy will continue to have high turnover if they continue to let people like Gerry and Terri work for the company. Human rights would have a field day with them.
The food, discount, co workers
Dreadful salary, upper management, department specialists, forced overtime with NO pay, complete lack of disrespect for employees
Deli & Cheese Department Assistant Manager (Former Employee) – Ottawa, ON – 19 May 2017
Farmboy is a very nice place to work at. It helps employees with their customer service, and basic skills. Although, managers tend to work long hours, we were sometimes rewarded. The most enjoyable part of the job is the surrounding staff. The worst part of the job, is the favoritism with in the company.
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) – Pickering, ON – 6 May 2017
The co-workers are awesome! But some of the management are very bipolar you never know what yo expect from them half the time. They want absolutely everything to look full and if one thing is taken off the display they will freak out saying that it is empty when it is not empty at all. They also have this so called "no moon lighting policy" meaning your not allowed to work another job not even your own business! Why would that even matter especially if they're able to work around it and it's none of their business even when your getting your work done. They don't even give you your hours that a full timer should be getting (that's less than 35 per week). Whatever you do don't work for farm boy
Employee discount, awesome co-workers
Not enough hours for full timers, their bad policies, bipolar management, poor pay for way too many duties
Cashier (Current Employee) – Pickering, ON – 30 April 2017
The management at Farm Boy continuously look out for their employees and assure their employees a comfortable, motivating, and secure workplace. All employees at each location are very friendly and welcoming to all customers and allow customers to experience the family atmosphere at the store.
Cashier (Former Employee) – London, ON – 28 April 2017
Worked here for approximately 2 years and it is by far the worst company I've ever been with. They treat employees like dirt on your shoes and are never shown any amount of respect. Managers are overworked (50+ hours a week minimum) and underpaid and take it out on the hourly employees as a result. The customer service standards are extreme and can't even be met. The department specialists walk around like kings criticizing every move that you make and ensuring that you're miserable as you can possibly be. I've never seen an organization with such a lack of morale. Advice: treat your employees like humans. They're your only true asset, and one day it'll come back to bite you in the butt.
Supervisor (Current Employee) – Ottawa, ON – 25 April 2017
They don't move you up in the company unless you're buddy buddy with your manager. You could be the hardest worker ever and they pick their friends over you. They treat you like slaves and work you like dogs. They treat customers like gold and workers like disposable objects. If you work there casually it's a fine place to work for money.
Manager (Current Employee) – Ottawa, ON – 20 April 2017
Just a total nightmare of a company to work for. Expanding too quickly with no real plan for staffing. Company does not allow employees to have any kind of personal life. Department managers are basically slaves working about 70 hours a week, never two days off in a row. Company couldn't care less about its employees. Completely awful place to work. Losing great people all the time. Staff turnover is incredible and it's not going to get any better.
Customer service representative/cook (Former Employee) – London, ON – 13 April 2017
Good Management structure, excellent work ethic administered by branch managers, very efficient human resource personnel maybe the strongest assets of the firm. Balanced gender equality in leadership. Would be an excellent place to work if associates are allowed to unionise.
Meat Clerk (Former Employee) – Pickering, ON – 4 April 2017
Farm Boy is good store with great staff and polite customers. The salary and wages there are extraordinaire (depending on the hours you work) and also once you've found a department to work in, you start to feel the vibes and connection between each co-worker within the store working. Farm Boy is an all around cool place with good food, and fine qualities within each manager, co-worker, and customer.
Good food and great pay.
Bad/Rude Management, Over-time/staying overnight, Expensive prices, etc.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) – Kingston, ON – 6 March 2017
Farmboy is a great company however their management team could use some improvement. I was there for 3 years and I got treated like nothing more than just an employee. When you had a problem or a concern their response was always "Figure it out".
Customer Service (Former Employee) – Kitchener, ON – 15 February 2017
worked here for over a year, management leaves much to be desired, lots of drama, managers that are not experienced in the departments they work in, people quitting and walking out was a regular occurrence, there was no respect for the employees or their well-being (being told to come in on sick days because there was no one to cover, etc). The overall work environment was very toxic and hostile, extremely low morale. Long hours and being expected to pull the weight for people who weren't doing their job, instead of dealing with them. Very reluctant to give out raises regardless of your performance.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) – Ottawa, ON – 12 February 2017
I worked for Farm Boy for a year and a half and I loved my experience working for the company. I spent most of my time working there as a cashier and really enjoyed it. They provide great training for new employees. Lots of hours available and very flexible. Managers are very nice.
Productive and fast paced environment with focus on customer service
Chef/Deli/Customer Service Rep (Former Employee) – Pickering, ON – 28 January 2017
Fast paced with many opportunities to learn new tasks and customer service techniques. Friendly management throughout the company willing to help out wherever needed. Typical work day consisted of pre preparing pizzas, stir fry, and sandwich stations and making whichever food that I'm stationed on for that day. Greeting customers with smiles and keeping up conversation whether about their lives, mine, or about the company while their food is being prepped to their liking.
