General Labourer (Current Employee) –  Brampton, ONAugust 24, 2016
- Shifts include: 7:30am- 3:30pm and 4:00pm- 12:00am

- Learning new and various duties amongst general labour lines with a team.

- Duties included: assembling units, moving product, packaging product, cleaning work area, meeting goal and deadline

- Management had a very positive and encouraging leadership amongst employees. Very proactive in helping employees work bearable.

- Coworkers: very hard and fast-working, diverse culture and ages, helpful and takes initiative

- Hardest part of that job: repetitive movement for a long period of time, extremely hot in summer

- Enjoyable part of that job: Supervisors are reliable and outgoing, easy to work as a team, easy to work independently

Operations Training Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Fort McMurray, ABJuly 23, 2016
Progressed through the the company quickly with hard work and motivation to learn new roles. Met lots of good people who helped strengthen the company's safety record. Benefits were really good, and HR was generally on top of issues quickly.

Operations Manager/General Manager (Former Employee) –  Brampton, ONJune 12, 2016
Exel gave me a lot of opportunity to learn and advance my career. Over time the operations phylosophy has changed and the operations have gone from a lean mean operation that treated associates and supplier fairly but demanded quality services to an operation that is multi layered with additional FAT and has little or no accountability.
Pros
Lots of opportunity if you were willing to commit.

Packer (Former Employee) –  Brampton, ONMay 22, 2016
A typical day at Excel is filled with non-stop hard work. I learned how to work at a fast pace due to the fact that I was working on a assembly line. The hardest part of the job was most definitely keeping up with the pace.

Long shifts with tedious work
Worker (Former Employee) –  Brampton, ONMay 10, 2016
Heavy workload, seven hour shifts with shifty pay. Long days and co-workers yelling at you to work faster. you get a good workout from lifting all the boxes, but the continuous nagging to work faster doesn't help.
Pros
Close to A&W
Cons
Long Hours

Exel was not a family oriented factory which made it hard for people with families to find the balance between home and work.

Client Shell provides close supervision but little mentoring. Turnover rate high and caused concern among employees about job security.

easy work, poor management
Reciever (Former Employee) –  Calgary, ABFebruary 7, 2016
The work was easy if you are capable of lifting heavy items, and the work was consistent. The people were from allover the world and got along well.

The management was not the best at planing, or keeping everyone doing their jobs. Sometimes seemed like they didn't much care what their employees were doing. But they were always easy to talk to and get along with, and I believe most of their problems stem from lack of experience.
Pros
easy work, regular overtime
Cons
poorly managed

Great employee engagement
Warehouse Associate (Current Employee) –  Brampton, ONJanuary 29, 2016
Great place of employment management was there when needed to answer any questions related to work. Company would provide lunches and dinners when working on weekends or additional overtime. Did not like making up time during weekend for 40 hour week would be interrupted due to lack of work. This resulted in working weekends but was optional for most employees. The system would drop a number of parcels to be picked on a daily bases most drops were on Tuesday to Thursday leaving Monday and Friday for voluntary time off. The hardest part was training individuals very high turn around rate. Individuals woulds stay for training and work a day or two after and hour of training for each day. This placed pressure on getting orders to be completed with time permitted. The job was great for voluntary work and proved effective in go green initiatives. The consistent meetings was great way to keep employee engaged.
Pros
Employee Opinion Survey yearly, Pot Lucks
Cons
Voluntary Time off

Not a place for young, physically fit, women to work.
Case Picker (Former Employee) –  Brantford, ONJanuary 20, 2016
Afternoon shift was 3-11pm with a 30 minute lunch at 7pm. The high turnover rate for other temp workers created an uncomfortably for the lack of background checks (none at all) and not to mention the little care to following safety regulations. Also, had numerous incidence of harassment while working here and was the only woman who worked on my shift.
Pros
it paid enough that I could saved up some money for college
Cons
Unsafe practices

Light Packager (Current Employee) –  Brantford, ONJanuary 6, 2016
Everyone is friendly and also committed to doing a good job. Typically, we package items or do labeling at a generally fast pace. The hardest part about the job is having to stand for 8 hours, but you get used to it. Overall a great place and great people.
