Environmental Education Ontario (EEON) is looking for leaders with a desire to promote environmental education to serve on the Board of Directors. No board experience is required but we people with fresh new ideas that can take the organization forward. We are searching for 4 individuals with one of the following skills and experiences:
- Fundraising: someone who is experienced in seeking private foundation funding. You are able to identify (or know people who do) sources of funding and help build EEON’s resources
- Communications/Website: someone with experience in social media and creating websites
- Legal counseling: a person with a law degree or experience with non-profit sector or environmental law
- Finance/Accounting: someone with bookkeeping and/or accounting experience or the treasurer
of an organization

Board Job Description

As a member of EEON’s board, your job will be to advise, govern, oversee policy and direction and assist with the leadership and general promotion to support the organization’s mission.

EEON’s Mission:
Environmental education is essential to create a culture of sustainability. To help achieve our vision, EEON will:
- Identify the state of environmental education in Ontario
- Work with relevant partners to ensure that people in all sectors have access to environmental education that is rich, meaningful and relevant to their needs

- Members of the board assume special responsibilities as defined in the organization’s by-laws. - They are expected to act in the interest of EEON. Each member is expected to make recommendations based on his or her experience. Specific responsibilities include:
- Regularly attend, prepare for, and participate in board meetings and special events
- Lead or support Board activities on the various EEON board committees, as needs arise
- Help communicate and promote EEON’s mission and programs to the community
- Contribute to various committees per interest and ability such as: resource development,
communications, event planning, and/or board nominations and governance.
- Participate in EEON fundraising activities
- Ensure succession planning for Board of Directors

Length of Term:
2 years, this can be renewed (pending approval of the Board and EEON members at the AGM)

Meetings and Time Commitment:
The board of directors meets on average every other month or 6-7 times per year. Directors are asked to devote an average of 5-10 hours per month to EEON business and beyond board meetings.
