About Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Enterprise Holdings is in the driver's seat in the global car rental business. Through its Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car, and National Car Rental subsidiaries, the company owns and operates a fleet of more than 1.2 million passenger cars and trucks. It rents out its vehicles from more than 7,400 locations, most of which are based in airports – more... and neighborhoods in North America, Europe, and Asia. It also runs a commercial truck rental business, as well as a car sales business that sells the company's vehicles after it removes them from the rental fleet.

Enterprise Holdings was formed by the combination of Enterprise Rent-A-Car and its Vanguard Car Rental subsidiary (Alamo and National's former parent). Geographic Reach The global rental car giant has a presence in 38 countries, including 7,400 company-owned locations in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, and Spain. Franchisees operate throughout the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region, including Guam, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Operations In addition to its primary Enterprise, Alamo, and National rental operations, the company also runs short-term car rental business WeCar, which rents out cars by the hour and allows renters to leave their cars at their destinations (rather than returning the vehicle to a rental office). Other holdings include Enterprise Car Sales, Enterprise Commercial Trucks, Enterprise RideShare and Enterprise Fleet Management. Financial Analysis Enterprise Holdings rang up $13.5 billion in sales in fiscal 2012 (ends July). The company has total worldwide assets of $27.3 billion, an increase of $3.8 billion from the prior year. Strategy Enterprise Holdings is busy extending its global reach. To expand its presence in Europe, the company acquired PSA Peugeot Citroën's car rental businesses Citer SA (France) and Atesa (Spain) in early 2012. The deal gave Enterprise Holdings a fleet of some 30,000 vehicles and access to key areas, such as main cities, rail stations, and airports in France and Spain. The US-based company also entered Brazil with a franchise agreement allowing Sao Paulo-based Unidas to use the Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands. At home the company is consolidating all of its car-sharing services -- including WeCar, PhillyCarShare, and newly-acquired Mint Cars On-Demand -- to the Enterprise Car Share brand name. In May 2012 Enterprise bought Mint Cars On-Demand, a car-sharing company serving more than 8,000 members in New York City and Boston. Ownership Enterprise Holdings is privately held by the Taylor family of St. Louis, which also owns sister company Enterprise Fleet Management. – less
