Working closely with systems engineering and sales, the Building Automation/ HVAC Controls Engineer is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of process and control strategies for HVAC in commercial and industrial buildings, enabling existing electrical loads to provide ancillary services for a smarter grid.

Responsibilities include:

  • Study operating HVAC sequences for commercial and industrial buildings, providing input on design control narratives to implement ENBALA sequences
  • Design electrical and controls network installation architecture drawings and specifications
  • Participate in discussions with sub-contractors and clients to walk-through the specifications and control narratives
  • Carry out remote testing of the implemented solution
  • Prepare accurate estimates of cost and labor required to execute HVAC projects
  • Identify and develop vendor relations to support procurement function
  • Keep the project manager and controls engineering manager updated on the progress of implementations
  • Develop and maintain project technical documentation standards

Experience, Education, Aptitude:

  • 4-5 years of control system design and programming experience in commercial and industrial HVAC or building automation, utilizing Delta, Alerton, Johnson Controls METASYS or Siemens APOGEE systems
  • Should possess working knowledge of AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio for engineering drawings
  • Thorough understanding of Modbus or BACnet protocols
  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley/ GE-Fanuc PLC programming, SCADA and DCS systems an asset
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • High level of computing skills and a sound working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • University degree in Chemical, Electrical or Controls disciplines, P.Eng. an asset
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment in a small, rapidly growing company
  • Proven capability of working on multiple (2 to 3) simultaneous installations
  • Willing to travel in Ontario and U.S. North East
