Very hard to get ahead in any position
Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Calgary, ABMay 18, 2016
Very poor management of time and people. They treat you like gold but the backstabbing that goes on is ridiculous.
It's a big boys club and if you don't belong you won't work here long.

Money was low and the benifits ok but there are better jobs. I found one only after a week when they laid me off for no reason. Double the money and better work environment. Still here today and I love it.

Solar Project
Framer/Carpenter (Former Employee) –  London, ONMarch 28, 2016
Typical day working was framing solar tables together to have glass solar panels sit on..Biggest part i learned is that the tables have to be perfectly square..off by and 8th of an inch the galss will not go on properly..Management was Great always there to help in any way possible. My co-workers were the best part of the Job..Great guys to work with and are friends for life..Hardest part of the job at first was the inconsistent go from here to there..couldnt stay and finish one row until near the end when it was all figured out..Learning curve it was for Ellis Don but we got there..Enjoyable part of the Job was working outdoors and working with great people and having a great time...

Facilities Services Team
Manager (Current Employee) –  Mississauga, ONApril 5, 2016
The leader of the team (Managing Director) is tied for the worst boss I have ever worked for.

There is rampant nepotism and favouritism on this team, and a significant lack of clear communication. You do as asked, then when you submit it, it is incorrect and you feel incompetent.

Co-workers good, some have more advanced positions then they are qualified for.....
Pros
Great colleagues
Cons
Work Life, lack of job security

Excellent Management and Work Life
Project Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Oakville, ONNovember 8, 2015
EllisDon was my first work experience during my undergraduate co-op (Internship) program. The management and the work life at EllisDon was excellent. During this time, I had the opportunity of working on multiple projects at once, which was challenging and rewarding.

Management verse Workers - "Be careful whom your friends"
Estimator (Former Employee) –  Mississauga, ONOctober 7, 2015
Management has private offices and workers have open cubical. So, you will be monitoring daily for your work load and your accomplishments. You will feel very insecure and any time you can be fired without any a notice. So you have watch your back everyday.
Pros
Colleagues, free lunch, Christmas Party
Cons
Long hours, Heavy work load

Worst upper management in 18 years
Superintendent (Former Employee) –  EdmontonJanuary 4, 2015
The OM is a complete joke. All other reviews about upper management and back stabbing are correct. This companies managers back east should review their Operations Manager - it is seriously affecting their ability to make a profit due to his lack of knowledge in the industry and his lack of people skills.

The Edmonton office is known as being cancerous. Low morale, with a very weak skill set in management (Superintendents and Project Managers).

The turn over of staff is pretty ridiculous.

There is a rumour they haven't made profit in the last 7 years and its not surprising.

If you are considering a career at EllisDon, choose any region beside the Edmonton office.

Broken promises and no life balance
Coordinator (Former Employee) –  EdmontonSeptember 22, 2014
Started out a great place to work. The people they put in place to manage sites have zero experience and don't want to pull their own weight. Promises are constantly made, and never followed through. Hours are long, and demanding and sites are always far from city leaving long commutes. Life/work balance is impossible with this company. Pay is not worth the amount of work you are expected to put in and the amount of backstabbing you have to put up with. Every time a project ends you are worried for your job, because communication from management is bad and they never tell you what's going on.
Cons
high stress and some very bad staff

Everything goes slow
Minion (Former Employee) –  CanadaMarch 1, 2014
Great company but too much time is spent on ridiculous tasks that have nothing to do with constructing the project.

If you have come from a smaller firm to join EllisDon be prepared to get extremely frustrated with how long it takes to get normal things in place to actually start building.

You will lose two or three months at the beginning of a project only to work like a dog the last three months making up time that was wasted at the beginning

It's hard to believe they make money. They have so many employees who really don't do anything but spend the day pretending they are necessary. Nice people though.
Pros
good benefits
Cons
incompetent (but nice) management

A place where you get stabed in the back
