Position: Litigation Law Clerk

Location: 401/Don Valley, accessible by TTC

Primary Roles:

Assisting in the preparation of applications, pleadings, motion records, etc.
Drafting, editing and issuing correspondence to opposing counsel and to clients
Managing litigation deadlines and maintaining tickler system
Meeting with clients, swearing affidavits, etc.
Assisting with trial preparations
Coordinating service of materials
Attending to legal research
Filing
Typing / Transcribing
Copying / Binding / Delivery Arrangement

Periodic Roles:

Providing overflow support to other lawyers with the firm / staff
Assisting with administrative matters
Providing personal assistance to lawyers
Carrying out reception duties
Assisting in organization of lawyers as needed. (ie. office straightening)

Key Skills:

Thorough knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
Attention to detail
Typing (60+ WPM minimum)
Computer skills (knowledge of Office, including Word and Excel)
Communication – written and oral [English]
Spelling and Grammar (competent proofreader/document drafter) [English]
Ability to prioritize assignments and execute within given timelines
Ability to multi-task
Ability to work independently, follow instructions and take responsibility for work assigned

Starting Salary: Commensurate with experience

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
(9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday with a one hour lunch break)

Experience: 10 years of experience working in litigation

Education: Completion of Law Clerk’s diploma/certificate from an approved institution
