I greatly enjoyed working at Edmonton Meals on Wheels. Every day I went in with a smile, and everyone is extremely focused yet positive. The day's work is always focused around ensuring our clients' needs are met, but we also focus on a work/life balance. Typical duties are cash handling, data entry, answering phones, emails and face to face inquiries. Often also you interact and collaborate with multiple departments, employees, volunteers and clients. Management is extremely on task and open to ideas and input, and they appreciate initiative and quick learning. Coworkers are friendly and helpful. I was always able to ask for help without thinking I was bothersome; if any tasks or clients could not be helped by me, senior staff were able to handle most disputes.
The hardest part of the job is time management, working under deadlines and ensuring that clients are the focus. Also, accuracy and communication is key.
The most enjoyable part was the interaction between the staff and volunteers, and the feeling of being of part of something that really has an impact on the community.
