(This is a half time position: 20hrs per week)
Edmonton John Howard Society is a community based not for profit crime prevention agency that has been operating in Edmonton since 1949. Our mission is “through our programs and services we work to prevent crime and to help people affected by crime”.
This position will create a database of employers that are willing to hire clients that come to the Intake and Employment Program. Many times employers do not understand the complex barriers of our clients; this position will create a supportive working relationship between employer and employee.
Primary aspects of this service include:
connect with potential employers
advocate for a healthy working relationship
follow up with employee and employer
create and maintain a database of employers
The successful candidate should possess:
Degree in human services or equivalent
Experience working with high-risk clients and / or young offenders
Experience with employment counselling and preparation (resume development, interview practice, job search support, job search tips and techniques, job maintenance, workplace conflict, and ongoing employment counseling
Strong knowledge of community resources
Strong listening skills, relationship building, mediation and counseling skills.
Ability to engage and motivate clients and work with their self-identified needs in a
Knowledge of criminal justice system
Knowledge of Record Suspension process
Prior experience in developing collaborative partnerships.
Prior experience in program evaluation
Advocate for clients to gain employment
Must be self-directed, flexible, team orientated and able to follow direction
Able to follow the agency’s philosophy and core values
Strong computer skills, data base experience
A clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Record Check is required
A reliable vehicle and valid drivers licence
The annual salary for this position is $23,000.00
