STATUS/FTE: Out of Scope, Level 5, 1.0 FTE (35 hrs. /week)
SALARY: $53,331-$66,664 (10 month); $63,998-$79,997 (12 month)
START DATE: August 29, 2013

This position provides intervention services for children with severe behaviour challenges within an inclusive, early learning classroom environment that includes pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten and Grade 1 classrooms. The job provides professional support to children, teachers, teacher assistants and parents in providing strategies to work with severe behaviours in young children. In consultation with psychologists, the job develops and implements behaviour management plans and strategies. The Behavioural Specialist works together with other members in the Early Learning multi-disciplinary team that provides support to children ages 3 to 7 years.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
 Utilize assessment skills to determine the needs of the child;
 In consultation with psychologists develop and implement behavior management plans to be consistently applied in the child’s varying environments;
 Provide written documentation of evaluation, assessment, recommendation and current progress. Reports are to be concise and written in terms that teachers, administrators and parents easily understand;
 Partner with teachers and teacher assistants to model appropriate, positive behavioural strategies with the child;
 Implement specialized programs (i.e. behaviour management plans, intensive behaviour intervention, applied behaviour analysis);
 Assist parents and teaching staff in formulating behavioural plans for the child;
 Contribute as a multi-disciplinary member of the Early Learning Team.

 University degree in Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies or related area plus three years experience in early learning environments;
 Knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis training or equivalent;
 Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, CPR/First Aid;
 Knowledge of psychological diagnoses and the impact delays/disorders have on behaviours in children;
 Skills to facilitate the consultant role through education, training and assisting other professionals;
 Flexibility is essential for this incumbent given the variety of children’s abilities, needs and conditions.
