Edmonton Catholic Schools is a large urban school district whose mission is to provide a Catholic education that inspires students to learn and that prepares them to live fully and to serve God in one another. Archbishop O’Leary High School requires a Business Manager to supervise and maintain an effective system of financial management control. The incumbent will direct the financial operations of the school with emphasis on budget and internal controls, including the safeguarding of information and assets, implement and administer internal reporting systems to enhance timelines, reliability and relevance of reported information and assess and verify the economical use of resources based on cost/benefit analyses for programs, activities and equipment.

This is a permanent, full-time, 12 month, Out of Scope, Level 6 position with a salary range of $70,638-$88,229 to commence as soon as possible.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
 Supervise and maintain an effective system of management control, with relevant, timely and accurate information flows. Direct the financial operations of the school with emphasis on budget control, identifying control weaknesses, establishing internal controls, and implementing financial policies to ensure compliance with centrally established accounting principles, corporate requirements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP);
 Assemble, review, and monitor operating budgets, identifies cost control measures and alternative plans for resource allocations; develop cost/benefit analyses for purchase, to ensure the school’s resources are utilized effectively and efficiently;
 Supervise subordinates and assign responsibilities to ensure efficient use of human resources;
 Supervise and administer school generated and divisional fund transactions to ensure accurate reporting, documentation and audit trails;
 Perform procedures to ensure the accounting system’s integrity is maintained and monitor adherence to accounting procedures and internal control policies to ensure the safeguarding of information and assets. Co-ordinate school audits with financial services and external auditors;
 Establish reporting needs and standards for financial and statistical reports and create reporting formats and procedures to ensure information is presented and used in an efficient and timely manner;
 Produce and interpret cost/benefit analyses for various programs and activities to verify the economical use of resources;
 Manage, advise, and report on the maintenance and repair of the school facility, furniture and equipment to ensure school plant operations are performed in an efficient manner.

Qualifications:
 Post-secondary education in Accounting or Business Administration, supplemented by advanced accounting courses, plus three to five years of directly related experience;
 Strong knowledge of financial policies, procedures, accounting and budgeting procedures;
 Knowledge of electronic financial systems (Cayenta, ACORN, Leaf), computer systems and software packages (Excel, databases and reporting);
 Knowledge of relevant policies, regulations and procedures established for the school and district;
 Knowledge of records management, financial reporting, FOIP legislation and project management techniques.
