Business Development Economist Role

The Business Development Economist will lead the efforts to generate new leads by studying the business processes of prospective clients, researching about challenges they face and identifying the issues our firm can help them with. Responsibilities also include making phone calls, establishing contacts, arranging meetings, preparing white-papers, case-studies & presentations as well as writing and responding to Requests for Proposals for various research studies.

Job Responsibilities

This position is ideal for an economics professional with a strong interest in furthering their expertise by hands on experience on various aspects of consulting business. We anticipate career development will occur while completing the types of duties and responsibilities described here and through mentoring and close collaboration with Chief Economist.

Examples of projects you would be proposing:

Design and implement economic research methodologies and fiscal analyses in support of regional policies, plans, and programs.
Design and conduct quantitative research and non-routine data analysis to evaluate and monitor current economic conditions, forecast future trends, and analyze the impact of proposed projects/ business plans.
Evaluate the economic impact and perform risk assessments of alternative actions; analyze various demographic and socio-economic factors and recommend specific actions to improve the outcomes.
Prepare written technical, analytical, and policy reports and present findings and recommendations to various audience.
Provide advice and consultation on economic matters through different channels including presentations, seminars, web-conferences, executive briefs.
Develop successful long-term networks and business relationships with private and public sector organizations.


$25 per hour (on verifiable time-sheet) + Variable component (Profit share of business generated).

In first few weeks, your main task will be to contact the clients and discuss the project proposals. You will get a percentage of total profit generated through the projects and clients you bring in.

Experience and Qualifications

For this position, we are searching for a candidate with an aptitude for analytical thinking and problem solving who is organized, flexible, and can be relied upon to meet deadlines while working on multiple projects. Excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently and good negotiations techniques are essential for success in this role.

The minimum education, training, and experience qualifications include a master's degree (MA, MBA) in economics, business administration, statistics, commerce or related field. Programming experience in R, Stata, Matlab or any other statistical/ quantitative libraries will be beneficial. Applicants with bachelor degree in these fields can also apply but will have to demonstrate exceptional skills to get selected.

We are also accepting CVs from recent graduates and will entertain part-timers. Since the compensation is linked to the new business generated, we are open to result-oriented work from home (telecommute) arrangement.
