High pressure sales organization
Territory Manager (Current Employee), City of Industry, CA – January 15, 2013
Pros: set your own schedule
Cons: 24 hour service call coverage which includes some holidays
A typical work day as a territory manager involves being on call for help calls 24 hours and acquiring sales to achieve budget. Everyday is a balancing act between sales and service. The management team is concerned about new account sales although much of your time is spent servicing damaged and malfunctioning equipment at current customer accounts. – more... Some co-workers are really helpful and are willing to reach out helping hands on installs but most could care less about helping another associate. However, I have learned a lot about the sales process and how to provide excellent customer service. – less

EcoSure Field Services - Not
Field Services Specialist (EcoSure) (Former Employee), California – January 11, 2013
Pros: you will really get to know the region you work within
Cons: an inconsistent workload, extreme travel requirement, sub $50k starting salary.
Qualifications are required for the position - but you will hardly use them. You will be a numbers generator and have limited upward mobility - particularly if you are not in the good graces of your next level manager. It was unsettling to find that the position came with numerous occupational hazards - which you will not hear about during an interview. – more... Talk to someone who has or is doing the job and find out if it is right for you. Know that the salary is not commensurate with the time you will put it simply to keep up with the organization's ever growing demands. Management puts on a good dog and pony show to create excitement and enthusiasm among the line staff but make no mistake the work is repetitive, ungratifying, and made more difficult by the the organization's struggle to meet their rapidly changing business and technological needs. You will report to a district manager - not a team leader - and that person will not have a vested interest in your success. I think it's understood there's a high rate of turnover and your replacement is already out there - if you're thinking about building your career around this position be careful - it could be significant step backwards. – less

PorkM1 – March 8, 2013

Could you tell me what the starting pay is for this position? Was it straight salary (if so average hours/wk)? Hourly pay? How many hours were you doing on average? I'm trying to get a solid idea of what one should expect for annual income starting for this position. PLEASE give me an idea :-)

Worst decision I've made..
Senior Service Specialist (Former Employee), Northern California – January 11, 2013
Pros: knowledge of pest control.
Cons: no sleep or life. too many uneducated managers. no support system, the hr dept failed me at every step.
Found out after the initial interview that if I wanted the job I'd have to relocate. I did & initially it was working out ok. As time grew though I started realizing how taxing the job was(psychologically, physically & spiritually).

I was on call 24/7. Worked a combo rural route meaning I had both day & night stops stretched over a very large demographics. – more... Initially my boss would take any pages I received while I was sleeping, but as his support dwindled so did any aspirations I had of working there long term. My confidence in him and the company faded after the 1st year.

Years 2-4 were spent in a zombie like state, repeating the same thing day after day. My boss had no real managerial experience or education.. His tactic to motivate was the do or die approach(same managerial style that Hitler perfected). It's great for short term results, but personally left me feeling resentful, isolated & unappreciated.

After a on the job injury, performing my workload became exceptionally difficult. My boss with the "walk it off" mentality was useless as any form of support. Eventually he came knocking on my door to fire me. Now keep in mind I'm a single father with a mortgage, bills etc., but when he told me we were parting ways, I actually laughed. It was like 4 years of stress was finally over.

Financially things now are more difficult because of the lack of cash, but I'm sleeping GREAT. I feel GREAT. I wake up happy and getting things accomplished. I'm no longer this zombie, shell of a man I was before.

Sorry for the novel here, but don't let what happened to me come to you. The quality of life by simply being happy is worth more than what Ecolab has to offer. – less

•the hardest part of the job
Ecolab! knowing they over promise you're time to customers cutting you're pay not helping you and then blaming you when things go wrong cutting pay and benifits(medicals so bad that for a family you have to spend about 7 to 8k a year before %80 kicks in with deductabls and premiums!) they cutt pay post retirment medical pension bonuses ect but then turn around and tell stock holders its been another stellar year, thats so depressing!!!!!

Great work environment
Configuration Associate/Helpdesk Analyst (Former Employee), Eagan, MN – January 3, 2013
A typical work day consisted of building new computers for Ecolab employees. Running and installing all required components and programs to have the computer working correctly.

I have learned many things from this opportunity fixing broken computers, diagnosing problems, and what makes a computer work in this company.

The management of this company – more... is good. Having the knowledge to help when needed and the resources to back them up.

Co-workers are very helpful at Ecolab. Always able to help in a bind, with the knowledge of some positions from cross training.

The Hardest part of the job is getting people to cooperate with us to get everything going.

The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to help make the company proceed forward. Also to be able to help employees resolve any issue with their computers so they can do their job productively. – less

WORST JOB EVER
TECHNICIAN (Former Employee), DENVER, CO – December 29, 2012
Pros: job security ( no one wants to do this job let alone be on call 24/7)
Cons: too many to list read the review
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS--- THEY ARE OKAY NOT THE BEST

CULTURE/VALUES--- A JOKE ECOLAB TREATS THERE TECHS LIKE GARBAGE ATLEAST IN DENVER, CO

JOB SECURITY/ADVANCEMENT---- VERY SECURE JOB BECAUSE MOST TECHS LEAVE THE COMPANY AND KNOW ONE WANTS TO WORK FOR THEM..... ADVANCEMENT THERE IS NONE THEY NO POSSIBILITY AT ALL

MANAGEMENT---- HAHA I HAVE NEVER WORKED – more... FOR SUCH A CLUELESS BOSS I ASKED HIM HOW OUR COMMISSION WAS PAID AND HE SAID I DON'T KNOW CALL HR

WORK/ LIFE BALANCE---- NOT A JOB FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY YOU ARE ON CALL 24/7 NO EXCEPTIONS

OVERALL--- ITS IS NOT WORTH IT THE MONEY IS ONE OF THE WORST IN THE PEST CONTROL BUSINESS. THE MANAGEMENT ISN'T GOOD. I WOULD RECOMMEND TERMINIX OR ORKIN THE PAY IS BETTER, BENEFITS ARE GOOD AND YOU ARE NOT ON CALL 24/7, IF YOU LIKE A COMPANY THAT LETS THE CUSTOMER DICTATE WHEN, AND HOW YOU WILL WORK ECOLAB IS YOUR COMPANY. – less

Sales driven hostile place to work very micro managed
Service Technician (Former Employee), Portland Oregon – December 6, 2012
Pros: lots of work
Cons: they only give field service 5 holidays
I was a field service tech for this company for over 2 years. The sales department has little knowledge of the mechanical side of the products they are selling. They make promises that are hard to keep and send you away from your family with little notice. The company has had a rash of poorly thought out products with performance issues. Pointing out – more... problems with products is seen as bad mouthing the company. This might be a good place to work for sales but I would not recommend it for any technical jobs.
They only give field service 5 holidays , The company car is not for personal use , The way the travel policy is set up when not in a hotel the first and last hour is considered travel time so many longer local trips I had to work 10 hours to get paid for 8 , Service does not get a cut of the sales , no per diem for travel just actual cost – less

Ecolab was one of the best companys I've ever worked for. Good pay, Meeting Bonus. 4 10hr shifts weekends off. Smart managment. Ability to excel.
Sales Support, Customer Relations (Former Employee), Grand Forks, ND – December 2, 2012
Pros: smart encouraging managment.starting the weekend on thursday. my co-workers were so sweet and nice.
Cons: 15 min max per day, a clock out timmer for the bathroom breaks in a 10hr shift.
Starting very early in the morning and out late was a nice change of pace, considering starting the weekend on a thursday opened my time to spend with my family at our lake home on the weekends.

Generating lead came very easy for me, I enjoyed speaking with the customers and intruducing new ideas to them. The most enjoyable part of my day was when – more... the numbers came in from the previous week/month, it's a great week when you bonus. I learned allot of great communication skills working in this enviroment, working very close with a team of 30 when I started, then promoted and working with 5 people, taught me by having just a few good reliable people on your team can make all the differnence when working togather.

I can't say I have anything bad to say about Ecolab, i enjoyed my time while i was there and appreciate everything I learned along the way. It was very sad that i had to move to Las Vegas for my husbands job, but very honered they offered me a postion on the las vegas strip working in the Pest control division. However, I had to decline the postion.

Ecolab is by far the most amazing managment team ive seen in place. They were very egar to teach, learn, and support all fellow employees in thier day to day life, wether it was for a charity or a sickness in the family, they were always fare. Working with so many smart powerful woman was an encourgment. – less

Route based Sales
Route sales and service manager (Current Employee), Columbia, MO – November 15, 2012
Pros: company vehicle, flexibility, benefits
Cons: on call 24hrs. lots of little projects build up at a rate that is difficult to control.
On call 24hrs a day. Work is time consuming, but once you have a feel for things the work load lightens up. With exprience in a route you can obtain a certain amount of freedom to work at your pace and vary your schedule. A typical day starts in the am where you go from location to location addressing customer needs and pushing for sales. Take a lunch – more... from noon to one approx. then back to work. expect customer calls needing service scheduled promptly. Must be flexible.
I am unsatisfied with local management, however I know managers in other areas that do a excellent job.
My coworkers are friendly and very helpful. however you mostly work alone.
The hardest part of the job is required sales material. Selling products or equipment that is just not reasonable in your area but must be sold per company policy.
The most enjoyable part is being in a different place each day, your almost always moving. – less
