Plant Manager, ECCO Recycling & Energy Corporation
Position Overview
ECCO Recycling & Energy Corporation, a Calgary leader in green business solutions, is looking for a Plant Manager to join our leadership team. This is a strategic role that requires a range of leadership attributes combined with a Professional Engineering designation, mechanical orientation, operations and administration skills.
Ecco Recycling's mission is to preserve Calgary’s environment by converting waste into usable products. We identify and take in construction, demolition and manufacturing non-hazardous dry waste produced in the Calgary area; determine all products that can be recycled from this waste; recycle and sell the blend of products that most feasibly and completely utilizes this waste; and store the residuals in our landfill for later processing if and when such becomes feasible. Our new advanced technology Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) has North America's largest footprint and throughput and is well equipped to handle a variety of materials and recycling operations.
The Plant Manager is a key role requiring a Professional Engineer and people manager to lead our Operations Manager, Shift Supervisors, and Production Staff to ensure the ongoing effective operations and overall performance of the MRF are maximized.
Duties and Responsibilities ,

  • Participate with executive management team and profit centers in company leadership
  • Ensure smooth day to day operations of the plant from power management through daily start up to material flow control
  • Comply with safety legislation and corporate safety requirements
  • Hire employees as necessary and optimize material handling requirements and processes
  • Create a positive team environment through employee development, engagement and motivation
  • Prepare and submit required reports in a timely manner
  • Administrative tasks as required
  • Participate as an active member of a corporate team of senior managers to identify and address areas of potential improvements with respect to commodities and product

Specific Functional Responsibilities

  • Control Traffic Flow to and from MRF
  • Control and Optimize Material Processing and Product Flow for Markets
  • Sort & Store “off spec” material vis a vis landfill & MRF
  • Establish, monitor and refine job performance standards
  • Determine and monitor pinch points and establish plans to clear as required
  • Monitor fuel values & specification compliance for all Process Engineered Fuel

Work Environment

  • Required to access plant control center by three flights of stairs, and to access and traverse plant via catwalks and on the working and processing floors
  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity for keyboard and machine operation part of workday
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, falls, bruises, burns, exposure to airborne contaminants) part of the day
  • Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, much of the day


  • Professional Engineer – Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical P.Eng status (or in process) required
  • Ten Years of progressive Plant (or similar) management/ experience with heavy equipment


  • Total Package $150-$200 K range
  • Bonus for achievement of Goals and Specific Performance Objectives
