We are currently recruiting for a quality individual to become part of our client’s large legal team. We are focused on legal assistants with experienced in excess of 3yrs working in Litigation, bankruptcy and insolvency. An individual who wishes to expand their career in this area as well as dip into the area of Corporate Commercial law. As the Senior Legal Assistant for this Legal team, you will be working very closely with the Lawyers and are required to have above average attention to detail and extreme accuracy. You must be an individual who is friendly, energetic and a team player. One who takes direction well and gets the job done with minimal supervision. Having strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently goes without saying. You must be very ambitious and have the ability to work in a fast paced and constantly changing environment. You must be the type of person who is reliable and dependable and showcases the ability to truly understand legal terms and processes. The best fit for this role would be someone who has been working in Litigation and has a true understanding of excellence in customer service. The ability to work well with others but primarily on your own is not only necessary but expected.
Job Duties:

  • Strong attention to detail with extreme accuracy , punctuality, spelling and grammar with thorough knowledge of litigation, insolvency and corporate commercial law in one or all of these verticals
  • Coordinate correspondence both between internal departments and external vendors, liaison with clients, other law firms and opposing counsel
  • Prepare legal documents, court reports and affidavits as well as research records and other pertinent legal documents
  • Research records, court files and other legal documents,
  • Maintain data base and keep detailed and accurate records
  • Ability to create and maintain legal documentation with confidentiality
  • Transcribe and revise digital dictations and hand-written materials, including correspondence and memoranda to assist with the creation of legal documentation
  • Maintain client files, including opening, closing and preparing files for storage
  • A positive, self-starter attitude with an ability to take initiative
  • Bankruptcy and insolvency legal experience with the ability and experience to dip into some corporate commercial work,
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet required timelines, goals and objectives of all case files as instructed
  • Experience with Litigation , court hearings, working with insolvency legal documentation and court document templates
  • Flexibility to work with multiple changing priorities and strict deadlines as part of a very detailed and busy lawyers team with a proven track record in participating in the day to day activities of a larger law team working with multiple lawyers
  • Schedule and confirm lawyer appointments, follow up on court hearings and meetings and or conference calls with other lawyers

Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years legal administrative experience preferably in the area of Litigation, or insolvency or both with a basic understanding of corporate commercial law
  • Proficient with MS Office, word processing, Power point and Excel
  • A minimum typing speed of 40 – 60 words per minute
  • Excellent command of the English language (grammar and spelling abilities are essential)
  • Exceptional transcription and organization skills
  • Certification from a legal assistant Program is not necessary, but would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience handling confidential documents and information and comfortable with the liaison of customer and legal exchange of information
  • Requires a strong work ethic with a stable work history
