Donald’s Fine Foods is a family owned business and has operated for over 20 years. We are a specialty meat manufacturer spanning three plants in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. We currently have an opening for a Corporate Controller.
The Corporate Controller will oversee all Accounting functions including general accounting, billing, A/R, A/P, financial reporting, and tax administration. The passion for learning the business is an absolute must.
The Controller will be tasked with managing and growing the accounting team and supporting Donald’s Fine Foods expansion plans. Additionally, the Controller will be a key leader at Donald’s Fine Foods and will work closely with the CEO and Operating Managers to drive financial strategy and execution. The candidate must have a designation of either: CPA, CMA, or CA.
Oversee all activities of the accounting department including the month-end close process, financial reporting, payroll, and cash management.
Will seek to understand the business processes and industry in order to validate the financial reports and be able to explain the numbers.
Engineer an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives – includes hiring and mentoring of the accounting team.
Establish and maintain corporate accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure conformance with CDN GAAP and other laws/regulations.
Manage external auditors to ensure that all documentation required for annual audits and initiate quarterly reviews.
Ensure accounting systems and processes are continually streamlined via process improvement to achieve greater efficiencies and accuracy in the level, and timeliness of reporting.
Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
Support three operating facilities through providing strategic leadership and timely reporting

Active designation for CPA, CMA, CA, or equivalent
Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent
Minimum 5 years experience of managing an accounting team
Excellent communication skills – written / spoken
Will be expected to travel as needed to company subsidiaries, as well as to business partners to conduct due diligence.
