Financial Analyst (Current Employee) –  Katy, TX3 April 2017
Norwegian company, with a similarly relaxed European atmosphere. Employees are granted autonomy and flexibility. There is a bias towards keeping Norwegians in management positions, but only in overhead departments. Technical/engineering departments are very diverse. Company supports employee development, and is reluctant to conduct reductions. Company is not publicly owned, and the company's priorities are aligned accordingly.
Pros
Benefits, atmosphere

Wind energy is environmentally destructive (greenwashing)
Field grunt (Former Employee) –  United States2 April 2017
This company and others who scope out ways to destroy landscapes with massive wind turbines, claiming to balance or mitigate the damage, should not be called progressive or green. Wind power also depends entirely on fossil fuels to exist, thus it's not really "renewable."
Pros
Gets things done
Cons
"Renewable" energy is laden with hypocrisy

Avoid this company
Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Morgantown, WV10 February 2017
DNV GL is a Norwegian owned company that has great customers; however, the work culture is atrocious. Technical and project management resources are expected to work well over a typical 40-45 hour work week, usually more towards 60 - 65 hours per week. Management on the US side is terrible because they will not hire enough resources to cover the work, while making record profits for the company. Benefits are pretty good, but that is the only bright spot.
Pros
Decent benefits and good clients
Cons
Hours, management and overall job culture

Great people but poor Management
Manager (Former Employee) –  Midwest23 January 2017
Great company values that get lost at the top of the house. This is a very large company but the US side is run like very independent small companies. The units within the company do not get a chance to talk with one another much and when that gets improved then there will be some really great advancement to the company. Your work is really determined by the type of job you have and is really tied to your boss and what they allow. If you have a forward thinking boss then you can do almost anything within the company. Do your work first then go find fun stuff to do to make yourself and the company better.

Worst part of the job is that there a lot of really bad bosses. They promote based on technical skill and not people skills so your boss might be very smart but cannot interact in public to save their lives. These people seem to also shield you from the rest of the company.

Overall a good place to work and if you find a bad boss try to move out quickly.
Pros
Great work environment, little perks (free coffee, snacks), really smart people, integrity of company
Cons
Poor Leadership, people are overworked, runs as different businesses internally

What I shall say
Quality Assurance Manager (Former Employee) –  Dubai10 December 2016
It is not useful so leave it as it is.

You can never judge a company after you have left it.

The simple problem when I was there was that we were in the middle east and there was no rules to support us.

Process Safety Engineer (Former Employee) –  Houston, TX9 December 2016
Since the merge between DNV and GL the company has not been the same again.

The oil crisis did not help, but changes due the merger were extreme, the company did not adapt to the change in the marked.

DNV GL was the best company I have ever worked for.
Surveyor (Former Employee) –  Katy, TX15 September 2016
Working for DNV GL was an experience of a lifetime. The work/life balance was absolutely amazing. And the opportunities provided by the company were amazing. There was a lot of room for growth. The company encouraged all of their employees towards individual growth. The management treated you like an adult, with minimal interference, while maintaining a supportive role in everyday activities.

Interesting high quality and technical expertise. Competitiveness is very challenging
Divisional Sales Manager Asset Integrity Software (Current Employee) –  Dubai8 September 2016
There is no such thing as a typical day at work. Always new challenges and exciting new project opportunities. As responsible Sales Manager you have a pivotal role within the organization and you have to coordinate well between the cross organizational units. The Company is a well known name in the various Industries. Because of this it is proven to be very challenging at times especially in highly competitive markets. The Company is perceived as high quality but also as high priced Company.

The Company has a lot of people with technical expertise so when it comes down to challenging technical issues it is nice to work with people who can meet these challenges.
Pros
Good employement health insurance, benefits such as Gym memebership
Cons
Business is heavily controlled from Europe.

Summer Intern - Project Finance (Former Employee) –  Oslo6 September 2016
This was a great experience and a perfect opportunity for me to utilize the skills I had obtained within project finance. However, this is mainly an "engineering" company where finance and business fall into the background - not the perfect company long-term for a finance professional.
Pros
Strong focus on work-life balance
Cons
Not relevant
