Discovery Community College (DCC) will be opening a new campus in Surrey March 2013. We are looking for an instructor for its Community Support Worker program. If you are a caring and dynamic individual with good communication, strong organizational, and leadership skills, plus experience in the teaching and/or mental health field, this could be a great opportunity to join the DCC team and expand your career.

This program is divided into three semesters:
1. Personal Support Worker
2. Education Assistant
3. Community Mental Health

The successful applicant will be someone who can assist the learners to focus on gaining the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to work in a personal support role in areas such as community social service agencies, support services for all ages, group home settings, and in the public school system as support personnel for children with special needs.

The successful applicant will also have a working knowledge of instructional theory, basic education principles, practices and methodologies, the developmental process, competency-based curricula, and general classroom and work area practices; as well as a working knowledge of MSOffice programs.

Skills & Abilities required include but are not limited to:

- Ability to establish and maintain an appropriate level of authority in the classroom
- Ability to create an atmosphere of support and confidence for students
- possess effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to deal effectively with stress
- possess good interpersonal skills and sound judgment
- possess effective critical thinking skills

Education or Experience required:
Certificate/diploma/degree related to the field of instruction
Provincial Instructor's Diploma or an equivalent or the willingness to take the PID upon being hired.
Minimum of three years relevant occupational experience related to the area of instruction
