Dillon is a well established, employee-owned, professional consulting firm which operates across Canada and internationally. We provide a wide range of consulting and design services related to the infrastructure, real estate, resource, industrial and government sectors in Canada and abroad. We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Field Biologist/Environmental Technician (Wetlands) in Atlantic Canada, for a term of approximately twelve weeks beginning in July 2013.


  • Assistance in the development and delivery of natural environment studies for a variety of resource and infrastructure projects
  • Completion of field activities including preparation of sampling plans, collection and compilation of field data, digital geo-referenced data, completion of field notes and preparation of field study reports for wetlands
  • Collaboration with and assistance to project managers and team members including biologists, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists
  • Business travel upon request with possible helicopter transportation


  • A degree in ecology, biology or environmental science, or a diploma in Technology in Ecosystem Management, Fish and Wildlife Management or a related environmental discipline
  • Department of Environment certification in Wetland Evaluation, or Atlantic Canadian / Northeastern US Wetland Delineation and Function Assessment training
  • Ecological Land Classification certification may be an asset
  • Minimum of one year related work experience with at least one summer of seasonal field work
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Strong work ethic with interest in field work, physically able to walk through difficult terrain for extended periods of time


  • Adept at the planning and creation of wetlands project area field surveys using ELC, Rare Flora Potential map and other relevant information
  • Experience in the collection of biological and physical field data in remote areas
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies pertaining to wetlands
  • Proficient in data entry, data compilation and the management of databases
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS would be considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills
  • Proficient in the writing of technical reports
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Time management skills necessary to organize field data collection and equipment
