Life as an Admissions Rep
Admissions Representative (Former Employee), Fort Lauderdale, FL – April 20, 2013
Pros: co-workers, health benefits and salary
Cons: management, job security and lack of growth
As an Admissions Representative in the South Florida Metro (Miami, Miramar and Fort Lauderdale) expect to work either M-Th10am till 8pm or 9am till 7pm with rotating Fridays and Saturdays 9-1pm which will give you no work life balance. The job itself isn't hard but the managers make it very difficult. There is a lot of favoritism within the company – more... itself. In order to move up within the company you have to suck up to the managers and do a lot of snitching on fellow co-workers. The job is a numbers game and not about the prospective students, so if you enroll a lot of students they will love you but its not about just enrolling prospects into school you want to make sure they complete there degree and that's why DeVry retention rate is so low because a lot of the prospects that enroll into DeVry aren't ready for college so they drop out. With that said, if your not enrolling the amount of students that they want you to enroll then they will begin to threaten your job and put you on a 30 day probation and try to pin a case against you so that they can fire you (stressful). The only thing I enjoyed about the job was my co-workers they are good people that ended up in a poor organization. – less

Good Place to propel a career
Admissions Advisor (Current Employee), Jacksonville, FL – April 20, 2013
Pros: training, benefits, stock options
Cons: late nights and saturday shifts
Tons of access to career development and training to improve your skills. Use the entry level position to either take the management route or enroll to the training courses to prep you to go to a different department. The admission role is rewarding as you get to help those make a positive change in their life. However, the late night and occasional – more... saturday (pending location) does take a toll on balance of work and life. Management is ok, they are open to your ideas and input to create a better campus. – less

If you like to be micro managed
Help Desk Analyst (Current Employee), Oak Brook – April 16, 2013
Pros: work from home
Cons: everything else
This Help Desk position is perfect for someone just starting out in IT that just doesn't know better. The pay is way below industry standards, this is pretty much a log and refer help desk with no real technical troubleshooting skills required. Management is terrible, a very micro managed environment. The only good thing about the position is that you – more... can eventually work from home. There is no advancement opportunities unless you are the favored few. – less

Great culture other than Orlando
Senior Representative (Current Employee), DeVry Online – April 11, 2013
Pros: dont have to do much to get paid
Cons: poor management, and always promised things
Orlando Online Services Directors and Senior director are uneducated and they show favoritism to all of the people they like the most. The Senior HR corporate personnel is racist and allows the same people to file complaints without any precaution. It is the blind leading the blind at the location and it is doomed.

Be careful
Admissions Advisor (Former Employee), Houston, TX – April 10, 2013
Pros: free education
Cons: everything else...
Heavy recruiting, expected to make 100 dials per day, set appointments of students coming in to interview for admission and assist them in enrolling for college programs. Management style is poor, leadership is not built for development. Do not agree with the high level of recruiting. This is a true telemarketing job.

Excellent treatment and culture
Tutor and librarian for DeVry University (Former Employee), Long Beach, CA – April 9, 2013
Pros: flexible hours, no strenuous work, occasional free food, nice boss
Cons: part-time, medium pay ($12/hour)
This was a Federal Work/Study position. I worked there for a year and it was fun and educational. My supervisor was quite a gentleman, and he was the epitome of the kindly mentor. It was a rewarding position, helping students with their English composition and research, and programming skills. DeVry hires their best students for this position, and it – more... took me a year just to get in the door. It was worth it. I left because I was not allowed to work there unless I was a student. If you can get the position, it's a great part time job for a student. – less

A decent place to work
Operations Support Coordinator - Academic Analyst (Current Employee), Edina, MN – March 29, 2013
Pros: good leadership
Cons: poor compensation, poor schedules
Though the management team is excellent the compensation package needs to be better. My typical day includes computer lab checks, followup on cleanliness of classrooms, and tutoring in the subjects of Math, computers, excel, etc.
I've learned about Active directory controls, Ghost images of computers, and managing personnel. Another interesting aside – more... was the writing for a new program. In the academic setting this is the equivalent of preparing a new product line.
The Management team is excellent, people I'm proud to follow and work with.
My coworkers are all consummate professionals. Highly skilled at their jobs each person is able to handle numerous situations that come up on the job with ease.
The hardest part of the job is the down time. I do not handle idle time well and get bored quickly. Though I find other activities to occupy my time, it is nice to have projects to do.
When I have a lot on my plate and there are several projects to complete I am in heaven. – less
