They don't wait for the sun to come up at this company. The ovens are always fired up at Dawn Food Products. The company provides a comprehensive array of partially and fully baked grain-based products, such as cakes, muffins, cookies, doughnuts, and artisan breads. For other companies in the baking sector it provides all the fixings for bakery production, including batters, fillings, fruit-bit concentrates, frozen dough, icings, and spreads. Its customers include food manufacturers, food service companies, institutional bakeries, and restaurants. It also manufactures retail bakery goods, including Weight Watchers and Disney products. The company is owned and operated by the founding Jones family.
Offering more than 4,000 products, Dawn Food Products operates about 40 manufacturing and distribution facilities in the US, Canada, Mexico, and other countries. Altogether, the company's reach extends to more than 60 countries.
In recent years, the company has been streamlining its US operations to boost efficiency and cut costs while expanding its footprint in Europe to increase sales. As part of the move, Dawn Food Products shuttered its operation in Modesto, California, in mid-2012.
The company has found success in delivering American-style bakery products overseas. In mid-2011 Dawn Food Products acquired Royal Cosun's Unifine Food & Bake Ingredients, which produces pastry ingredients for European bakeries and industrial customers under the Caullet, Dethmers, Fruibel, and Sucrea brand names. The deal has extended the company's global reach, as Unifine has half a dozen production facilities and about 10 sales offices throughout Europe. The addition of Unifine's pastry ingredients also expanded its own offerings for professional customers. – less
