The Technical Sales Representative’s primary responsibility is successful business development and vertical integration within the market niche. Another aspect of this role is customer service and ability to troubleshoot and provide expert advice on the product range. D.F. Boiler Tube Industries Inc. specializes in procurement of boiler/pressure related components from over 100 qualified mills, manufacturers and suppliers across North America and Europe. The successful candidate will innately exhibit the corporate culture of “Service and Quality Second to None”.

Key Responsibilities:
Mid to long term responsibilities:

  • Responsible for staying afloat the current market trends in the industry to effectively negotiate and close deals
  • Expand the product knowledge base while working under the Sales Manager and CEO to brainstorm sales strategy and opportunities
  • Research sources for developing prospective customers and for information to determine their potential
  • Follow up on adherence to the Alberta Safety Codes Act and CSA B51 referenced standards
  • Effectively interpret customers’ drawings and find materials needed to complete each project on timely basis within the given specifications
  • Develop clear and effective written proposals and quotations
  • Achieve maximum sales profitability and growth on assigned market segment by successfully trading products and services
  • Report to the CEO on incoming projects and future business opportunities; make specific recommendations for action plans

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Maintain and file job folders for electronic and paper systems including original project requests, client communication, quotations, MTR (Mill Test Reports), invoicing, order confirmation and shipping documents
  • Prioritize and maintain effective workflow and communications by handling a variety of projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Update customers on the status of their projects and follow up on completed orders as directed by the Sales Manager and CEO
  • Research various technical alternatives or solutions to specific problems
  • Maintain and update data on multiple territories and accounts
  • Put together quotes under the guidance of our Sales Manager until proficiency has been established
  • Help to monitor common inventory items to make to ensure sufficient quantities are on hand at all times
  • Read and understand Mill Test Reports, find information in our code books
  • Additional authority and accountability as related to key responsibilities will be delegated to create a basis for contingency rewards and performance measures upon demonstrated competency

  • Customer Relations:

o Maintain, uphold or exceed the company’s reputation of “Service and Quality Second to None”
o Represent the company in social functions and events
o Maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents, adhere to operational and record keeping guidelines

  • Safety and Security:

o Lead by example and help to follow and enforce the company’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures

  • Computer Systems:

o Attend all prescribed training to achieve competency in the use of the ERP software

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication and negotiation skills are a MUST, together with the ability to build rapport and gain trust
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of the team
  • Superior organizational skills and self-discipline to manage time effectively, cope with uncertainty, stress and long hours
  • Business aptitude and desire to provide first class customer service in a fast paced competitive environment

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Savvy computer skills and fluency with the newest software
  • Technical Diploma in a related field (plumbing, pipe fitting, etc.)
  • Several years’ experience working with boiler/pressure vessel components, weld test coupons, boiler tube bends, plates, pipes and fittings is a MUST
  • Familiarity with MTRs and ASME codes
