Journeyman Machinist – Prototype Work
Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Job Summary:
Cutting Solutions Inc. is looking for a Journeyman Machinist ~ who specializes in CNC and / or Manual work. Day and afternoon shifts available (Monday to Friday 8:00 - 4:30pm OR Monday - Thursday 2:00pm to 12:00am); MUST be available for overtime.
This position is responsible for supporting day to day operations which may include utilizing the Matsuura 5 Axis, Vertical Turret Lathe, Horizontal Boring Mill, Waterjet table and / or other manual machining centers. Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate complex precision machining operations to exact tolerances and specifications in a lean manufacturing environment
  • Adhere to customer requirements for the Waterjet, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and manual machining center plans and processes
  • Provide expert advice on maintenance requirements and upgrades; fit and assemble components to machine parts
  • Support the Operations Supervisor in maintaining returning clients and fostering new business opportunity by adhering to strict QA standards
  • Read and comprehend the blueprints or specifications for the job and decide which tools are needed; report deviations
  • Complete orders by requested time and within the quality requirements of the customer
  • Properly record the job number, power usage and other specifications according to set guidelines
  • Perform general upkeep and preventative maintenance required to ensure optimal equipment performance
  • Maintain cutting area cleanliness and organization to the highest level possible and effectively participate in general warehouse upkeep
  • Participate with shipping and receiving functions as needed

  • Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents, adhere to operational and record keeping guidelines
  • Lead by example and help to promote the Company’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Participate in the required training and focus on continued professional growth and development
  • Additional authority and accountability as related to key responsibilities will be delegated upon demonstrated competency

Skills and Abilities:

  • Enjoy taking a methodical approach to your work when keeping accurate records and operating equipment
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, show initiative and be proactive
  • Organizational skills are also vital in order to maintain a clean work area and smooth efficient operation
  • Successful at getting along well with fellow coworkers and communicating effectively to learn from mistakes
  • Willing to put in overtime hours when necessary to achieve perfection and accuracy on emergency orders
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Journeyman Machinist designation or equivalent knowledge
  • Familiarity or experience with the Matsuura 5 Axis equipment center would be an asset
  • Experience with Vertical Turret Lathe and Horizontal Boring Mill preferred
  • Experience machining / repairing high pressure Leak Sealing Enclosures would be an asset
  • Good base knowledge of computers, experience in MasterCam or other programming software
  • Must be proficient in first piece inspection, off sets and tool changes
  • Valid Forklift Certification would be an asset
