Custodian
Reports to: Human Resources Administrator

Job Summary:
D.F. Boiler Tube Industries and Cutting Solutions Inc. are looking for a part time custodian to join our team. This position will be responsible for filling in for our designated full time Custodian during time off and vacation requests. On average however, this person will be working one or two days a week.
The Custodian is responsible for minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that our buildings and facilities are maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean and care for buildings and facilities in order to ensure they are maintained in a safe and healthy manner
  • Tidy offices, meeting rooms and lunch facilities; mop tile and concrete floor areas, vacuum all carpeted areas, dust all furniture and fixtures
  • Wash and disinfect all washroom floors, toilers and mirrors
  • Replenish toilet tissue and soap as needed
  • Empty all waste baskets and garbage cans; support the Environmental Committee with composting
  • Clean entrance and exit including glass, doors and hardware
  • Replenish coffee and slushy machines
  • Perform and / or report minor maintenance repairs and safety hazards
  • Maintain storage areas and cleaning equipment, materials and supplies
  • Additional authority and accountability as related to key responsibilities will be delegated to create a basis for contingency rewards and performance measures upon demonstrated competency

Other Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Human Resources policies and guidelines
  • Lead by example and help to follow and enforce the company’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures

Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics, time management, team building and problem solving skills
  • Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment
  • Ability to work under little or no supervision
  • Physical stamina to spend the entire time at work standing, walking, lifting heavy objects and operating cleaning equipment

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
  • 2 - 3 years’ experience in a similar position, preferably within the industrial setting
