Provides advice to Managers and Supervisors on OH&S claims management and Ministry of Labour OH&S citations.
Receives and makes recommendations on individual WSIB claim activities.
Identifies problem areas and develops solutions to address issues specific to OH&S and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
Develops & implements Safety Management Training (SMT), and Early & Safe Return to Work (ESRTW) programs
Provide leadership in the effective management of workers’ compensation process including analysis and reconciliation of health and safety programs (WSIB, NEER).
Forwards claim information and requests for recommended action to third (3rd) party Consultant, as needed.
Attends WSIB mediations, appeals and tribunal hearings, as required.
Provides materials and training to Managers and Supervisors with regard to claims management and WSIB.
Trains and educates Managers and Supervisors on OH&S and WSIB procedures, policies and programs to ensure prevention and claims management.
Completes the recruitment and selection and orientation for new staff within the OH&S program.
Completes special projects as assigned by the Director, Human Resources.
Develops and implements prevention programs related to OH&S.
- Evaluates OH&S and WSIB activities and makes modifications for improvement.
Monitors and analyzes all relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines.
Develops protocol for identifying job hazards.
Ensures the adequacy and effectiveness of the hazard recognition program, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), including review of the annual training, inventory and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Identifies the need for, develops and implements effective orientation, education and training programs specific to prevention.
Liaises with the OH&S branch of the Ministry of Labour and the WSIB.
Identifies and informs the Director, Human Resources of potential cost issues and solutions.
Ensures changes to health and safety and workplace injury claims management programs, processes and procedures are prepared and reviewed by the Manager Health & Safety subject to the approval of the Director, Human Resources
Strong relationship management skills to work effectively with numerous stakeholders and partners.
Able to provide Train the Trainer sessions on specific Safety issues.
Regular travel to field locations is required
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of job-related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Extensive experience in OH&S and WSIB legislation and regulations.
Knowledge of legal precedents and the WSIB appeals process.
Experience participating in and leading multiple teams across geographic and functional areas.
Strong computer skills in MS Office are a requirement.
Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Knowledge of the health care industry is an asset.
Certification in health sector specific OH&S training is an asset.
Canadian Health and Safety Professional designation is an asset.
Ability to travel throughout Ontario.
Excellent understanding of Incident Investigation/Root Cause Analysis
Understanding of WSIB / NEER financing principles and practices
Valid Driver's license
