The Director of Safety & Quality provides leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of the Safety & Quality processes for all aspects of Conair. In this role you will be responsible for development and implementation of all safety initiatives throughout Conair, overseeing and managing the Quality department and the preparation and monitoring of the annual Safety & Quality department budgets. Auditing, reporting and safety report analysis all form part of the routine tasks of this position.


  • Establish and maintain an internal safety feedback system and database;
  • Research, recommend and develop safety-related programs and training;
  • Ensure training meets regulatory requirements as well as meets the requirements for each department in Conair;
  • Coordinate regular safety meetings and the safety incentive program;
  • Lead investigations into incidents/accidents;
  • Prepare summary reports and recommendations for safety related policy and/or procedure change;
  • Promote commitment to safety throughout the company through communication and awareness;
  • Provide expert interpretation of safety related requirements and monitoring;
  • Conduct periodic safety and operational audits;
  • Monitor and assess WCB coverage, claims experience and costs;
  • Liaise with external customers to obtain feedback on safety issues;
  • Develop and implement safety & quality policies and procedures;
  • Provide regular safety & quality updates at the management meetings;
  • Ensure adequate control of quality is maintained and all airworthiness quality requirements are complied with;
  • Oversee and manage the work of reporting Quality department staff;
  • Accountable for balancing overall costs while maintaining a culture that prioritizes effective safety and quality;
  • Other related duties as required;

  • have demonstrated knowledge of Transport Canada Regulations, Health & Safety Regulations, Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health & Safety, Workers Compensation Board Regulations;

  • be able to travel within Canada and Internationally; (Significant travel is an ongoing requirement of this job)
  • be detail oriented with a focus on results;
  • have proven ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • be able to act with professionalism particularly in the face of opposition;
  • be able to clearly and effectively express information and ideas in English, both verbally and in writing;

Training & Education

  • Demonstrated management experience. (10+ years of progressive experience preferred);
  • Training in Auditing, Investigation, Quality Management or Safety Management;
  • Experience in Aviation Safety Management and Accident Incident Investigation is desired;
  • Experience auditing in an aviation operational environment and/or aviation maintenance environment preferred;
  • Experience creating and administering training programs;
  • 5 years’ experience in the aviation industry
