Good Work Environment
Assistant General Manager (Current Employee), New York, NY – May 22, 2013
Pros: free food
Cons: limited advance training
A great company to work for. A typical day is interacting with both clients and employees and ensuring the day runs smoothly. Over the years I have learned not only about the food and conference business, but also skills in customer service, HR, finance, communication and many other things. It has been an opportunity to interact with many different – more... people and learn from all of them. The hardest part of the job can be effectively managing time - budgeting enough for your team, clients, co-workers and your self to accomplish everything in a timely fashion. It's the people I work with that make it enjoyable everyday. They are just as committed as I am to do the best job and we have fun doing it everyday! – less

Conflicted opion
Commis chef (Former Employee), Newcastle – May 22, 2013
Pros: good hours and good hourly rate of pay
Cons: overstating of day to day procedures. also the waste management system should defiantly be reviewed.
The roll I have at compass-Commis chef, is not a complicated one. The only real demand was speed. However the paper work side was unlike any other kitchen job i've had. Compass follow strict procedures and ensure all their staff understand them. I sometimes felt as though myself and my co-workers were being talked to like children because the same points – more... of the job are reiterated over and over on a daily basis which can feel condescending. – less

Very quiet
Accounting Clerk (Former Employee), Gastonia, NC – April 30, 2013
A typical day was to sort documents, log General Journals in database, and assist with accounts payable and receivable.
I learned to communicate with others.
Manager was close by if needed.
Everyone stayed to themselves.
The hardest part of the job was no one talked.
The most enjoyable part we played a game call FISH once a week to bring all the employee – more... together. – less

Be aware!
District executive chef (Former Employee), East coast – April 24, 2013
Pros: salary
Cons: everything
Former district chef and general manager

This company is broken down into several sectors all with different pros/cons. The few things they all have in common are bellow:

1.You will work long hours but mostly off on weekends
2. Growth is based on position availability but the trend seems to be that only senior leadership gets big promotions
3.pay – more... is ok but based on managed volume, typical chef manager salary is around $40-$55k. If you are in a very large, high profile account you may be able to make more upwards of $70-$80k but these positions are very few and typically given to veteran managers
4. Make no mistakes, your managers are not your friends! You may break bread with them at times And talk about your families but when the financials of the unit are at stake it's all fare game and you will let go to make budget
5.if you are striving for management positions, understand that there is a high turnover rate at around 7-9 years with the company do to lack of opportunity . This company creates positions and titles to keep its regional people employed while eliminating district positions
6. The RVP has all the power with very little supervision so make sure to be on the right side

Remember , it's all about money with Compass group! – less

Catering Supervisor (Former Employee), Ystradgynlais – April 13, 2013
Pros: free lunches
Cons: working weekends
Very busy start to the day:-preparing & cooking breakfast continuing through to 4.30 in the afternoon. In this position I learnt how to deal with happy & not so happy members of the public. I had a great team of ladies with me and got on well with the unit manager as well as the client. The most enjoyable part of this job was a "thank you" from a happy – more... customer. The hardest was probably leaving – less
