This is a part time, 8 hr/week position providing support to an individual with a developmental disability to access meaningful daytime activities in the community, implementing the philosophy and values of Communitas. The support worker is responsible to provide guidance, support and teaching in all areas of living. This position can be combined with posting #’s 2175, 2177 and 2178.

1. Work together with Manager and persons being supported to creatively design options based on client’s preference and suitability
2. Liaise with primary caregiver on a regular basis
3. Provide transportation to and from community functions
4. Explore activities that will develop new friendships
5. Provide support and counsel in maintaining new relationships
6. Provide ongoing life skills training in community to further independence
7. Be a role model for client, reflecting strong moral and ethical standards, positive attitude and healthy work ethic
8. Advocate on behalf of the client whenever necessary
9. Be available to attend team meetings as required
10. Other duties as assigned


  • Community Support Worker certificate or approved equivalent
  • Previous Community Inclusion experience is an asset
  • Ability to relate to families and caregivers
  • Ability to relate supportively to a person with developmental disabilities
  • Philosophy of care that is in line with Communitas’ philosophy of service and of support for people with disabilities
  • Familiar with and able to implement “Spirit of Gentleness” principles
  • Ability to take initiative with creativity
  • Excellent team work skills as well as being able to work independently without supervision
  • Ability to network with other agencies
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Possession of a vehicle for transportation
  • Possession of a valid Class 4 BC driver’s license (unrestricted)
  • Possession of a current approved Emergency 1st Aid/CPR Certificate
