Job Summary: The Student Services Officer (S.S.O) is located in the medical clinic where they are responsible for front line customer service. This position supports the Nurses in the daily care and treatment of CIC students’ medical concerns.


  • Check emails and enter any after-hours student emails into Student Tracker
  • Set up claims for all dental appointments, counseling appointments, etc.
  • Fill out medical history forms (For translation purposes)
  • Coordinate claims and pre-approvals with the insurance company, Broker, and service providers
  • Follow-up with the providers and the insurance to resolve “dead accounts”
  • Advise students and submit reports as needed
  • Sort and distribute insurance cards and reimbursement cheques as needed
  • Making and adjusting student medical appointments as needed
  • Arranging for escorts to medical appointments
  • Communicate/coordinate with other CIC departments for the appropriate care of students (as needed)
  • Issue care forms according to the Nurses’ directions and, in the absence of a Nurse, use your best judgment in issuing these forms
  • Making initial assessments and following standard protocols for basic care of uncomplicated presentations (in the absence of a Nurse)
  • E-Documentation of each interaction with a student
  • Reminding students of upcoming appointments
  • Escort students to external visits/appointments (as needed)
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace for the efficient running of the Medical Clinic
  • Follow up on the students who were on the emails sent from residence during after hour on the previous day
  • Follow up on the emails sent from Liaison officers
  • Search for family doctors for the students who have certain medical history

  • Completion of a Medical Office Administration Program or equivalent
  • Some vocational training

  • Completion of an applicable College program or equivalent work experience

Working Conditions:

  • Long periods of sitting, some standing, walking
