Established in 1979, Columbia International College is the largest private boarding high school for international students in Canada. Throughout the year, we provide housing for approximately 1700 International students who attend our Academic Programs. We are currently recruiting for a Lead Houseparent to fill openings in our largest female residence (Pine Girls).
TITLE: Lead Houseparent
Location: Pine Girls (Student Residence with over 400 students)
Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
REPORTS TO: Assistant Residence Director (ARD)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Houseparent is responsible for the implementation and execution of Young ASEP Achievers (YAA) programming and initiatives within the residence. The primary goal of this position is to train, guide and manage houseparents so that students receive Total Care within the residence.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Work with the Residence Directors, Principal, ARDs, Head of Senior School, Head of JMS and the Head of Student Development Department to continue to develop a long-term vision for the YAA Program
Develop policies and procedures for Residential Living
Communicate with students, parents, liaison officers, administrators, faculty, alumni, etc as required
Coordinate with various departments on a variety of issues that relate to YAA Residential living
Participates, as appropriate, in College-wide committees
Provide timely reports on Residential activities as required
Management of Staff
Recruit and train new houseparents
Supervise, advise, evaluate, and encourages developmental opportunities for existing staff
Provides strong, positive leadership for the House Parents.
Ensure consistency of program delivery, discipline, and policies between the two residences (Pine Boys and Pine Girls)
Alongside ARDs, participate in the 24-hour on-call rotation to attend to student emergencies and follow up with appropriate interventions.
Supervises all House Parents
Schedule and perform yearly evaluations in keeping with Performance Appraisal processes
Implement a Reward and Discipline System to track progress of students on their attitude, participation and cooperation in Residence life
Monitor residence study periods, academic support, and tutoring for all students
Counsel students on disciplinary issues in accordance with the progressive discipline system in residence, as well as ACTS system
Facilitate interventions and promote residential community standards
Monitor the student mentors.
2 - 3 years experience with program facilitation and supervision of staff required
Undergraduate degree or equivalent training in a related field
2 - 3 years experience working with youth
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
Strong and assertive assessment skills
People management skills, Decision making skills
Ability to be an effective member of an interdepartmental team
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of programs
