I worked as a machine operator. This is a fast paced environment that expects high quality production. There is very little room for advancement. But the people were great to work with

run run run relentless pages. not allowed outside the door during your 12 hours. no smoking or tobacco allowed on the property.
Millwright Mechanic (Current Employee) –  Hantsport, NS6 September 2017
Absolute nightmare, totally incompetent management completely unorganized. If you like fighting fires all the time without any parts and nothing to work with , this is the place for you.
They probably have the greatest safety policy ever written, zero tolerance everything, however the only times it applys is when they want to fire someone, or doesn't interfere with production.

Poor Management
Sales Associate (Current Employee) –  Hantsport, NS26 July 2017
Favouritism and discrimination at all steps of the corporate ladder. Would not want anyone I care about to be employed by CKF as they discard long term employees regularly at all plants like dirty socks.
Pay off long term employees and include hush order clauses so no one knows about the labor law and human rights violations that happen on a regular basis.
When a president of a company states that "2 employees should be let go from each plant to keep everyone else on their toes" ...it is a sign that employees are not valued.

Day at work
Accounting Analyst (Current Employee) –  Hantsport, NS17 May 2017
Extremely busy environment where no day is ever the same. Training is at a minimum so I have learned most of it on my own with little help. The management is not great and there is a lot of favoritism. There is no room for advancement. The most enjoyable part of work here is my co-workers. The least would be management and how they treat us.
Pros
close to home
Cons
can be very stressful

Pulp and paper industries are about production , fast pace and be ready to learn fast.
Utility man (Former Employee) –  Langley, BC29 March 2017
Good benefits and plenty of hours with the 12 hr shift so overtime is always good. Lieu time-off if you work stats and overtime can be banked.Like the 4 on 4 off schedule, still have time to enjoy with family.
Most CEO's are overpaid management B.A. schooled paper pushers .
Management is grossly overpaid also for the amount of work done .
Pros
Free monthly safety parties....Free food and Beer.
Cons
long hours, fast pace, and production is always an issue.

Plant Executive (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON22 November 2016
Sweat shop. Old equipment, management trying to milk obsolete production facilities as long as possible likely in order to sell the company. Truly dysfunctional management structure, top heavy with non nearly enough people to actually maintain and operate the old equipment.
Pros
You get a paycheck
Cons
Where to start?

Very poor management (office and floor )
Labourer (Former Employee) –  Langley, BC8 August 2016
The problem with a union environment is the fluctuation in work ethic with employees. This is a major problem in the langley plant (pulp division ). As a former employee I witnessed this daily, and after bringing this up with my supervisor his response was my hands are tied. The union would be more than happy to just to protect them. All that does is create a very hostile environment especially when you are pressured to produce high volume. And the few of us that did want to produce we're made out to be bad guy. So if you want a great job to socialise with your coworkers this is the one!!!!

Multitasking and time management and slave driving supervisors
Packer/machine operator (Former Employee) –  Etobicoke, ON20 February 2016
They hire you as a packer but you actually have to operate the machine at the same time while you run around and do other things. The Supervisors are slave drivers, they easily threaten to terminate new employees if they fail to keep up within 2 weeks, or dont keep the machine running at all times...hostile working environment with supervisors that pressure, threaten and gossip about employees.
Pros

Too much tasks to complete at one time

Not a great place to work!!!!!!!!
Machine operator, production worker (Former Employee) –  Langley, BC14 February 2015
This place is Terrible. I was working there for 13 years!!!! the only thing good about his place is the wage. Its 4 12 hour shifts that you never get used to. This job is not good if you have kids in your life. The management is terrible how this run this company they are losing a lot of money. They don't care about any situations in your life. They set up clocks on each machines and if you are down on a machine LOOK OUT!!!!!!! if you are away sick for one day you get pulled in the office...
Pros
wage is good

goood employees and a supportive team that are there when you need them
Packer/Machine Operator (Former Employee) –  30 Iron street Etobicoke ontario M9W5E128 January 2014
typical day at work would be ,reaching on the job at 6:30 am and change into my work uniform and head to the shipping office to be place or teamed up with a co worker and a machine. The usual work day is a 12 hour shift from 7am or 7pm to 7pm or 7 am., receiving 4 15 min. breaks and one 30 minute lunch.
Some of the skills I learned was the importance of time management and the importance of team work. The workers at CKF Inc. are one of the best co-workers I've ever had to work with they are always there to support and help you when you need it.
Pros
helpful coworkers and pay
Cons
