Are you the one to design and implement engagement and outreach programs for the City of Edmonton's environmental sustainability programming? This ambitious initiative is part of Edmonton's strategic plan to build a more sustainable City - it's part of The Way We Green! Your skill set will include social marketing, branding, marketing campaigns, education and lots of relationship building.

As the Environmental Engagement Coordinator, your responsibilities include:

  • Support implementation of a broad community awareness, education and outreach campaign to actively involve Edmontonians in living sustainably
  • Engage citizens to improve their understanding of climate change and take action to improve energy efficiency
  • Orient marketing and education for a variety of audiences - homeowners, renters, businesses, communities and groups
  • Engage and support Edmonton teachers and students in learning about and contributing to environmental sustainability and resiliency
  • Build partner capacity to deliver workshops and classroom and community programming
  • Lead and/or support internal capacity building on environmental sustainability
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders like community leagues, community groups, institutions, instructors, energy evaluators, programmers, trade organizations, business partners and program sponsors
  • Support and maintain an environmental partnership network comprised of champions, community groups, organizations, academia and individuals
  • Determine and implement incentive or grant programs needed to support Office of Environment initiatives
  • Liaise with potential partners and leverage outreach programs with other programs offered by the City of Edmonton and other institutions
  • Develop promotions, branding, marketing and social media for environmental sustainability


  • University degree in community development, environmental sciences, education, sociology, psychology or a related field
  • Minimum of five years experience in developing and delivering broad-scale outreach and engagement programs to a variety of audiences
  • Experience with marketing using a variety of media including web, print and experiential forums
  • Experience in workshop design, facilitation and delivery
  • Familiar with sustainability and the science of climate change, and connections between energy and climate change at individual and community levels
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build partnerships to broaden engagement and facilitate conversations to build shared messages
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License and eligibility to obtain a City driver's permit

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program. Some evenings and weekends are required

Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 025, $34.640 - $43.492 (Hourly), $61,027.02 - $76,662.03 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
