This posting is for up to five (5) permanent, full-time positions

You are a whiz at computers and you love working on and resolving technical issues. You are known for your consistent and superior performance at responding to clients needs in a timely manner.

As the Computer Support Technician, you will be providing assisting customers with their desktop support services both in person and remotely. Some of your key responsibilities include troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, providing desktop related advice and deployment of hardware and software for the City of Edmonton customers. Apart from this, you will also be involved in the following:

Develop a rapport with the customer, providing excellent customer service skills and dealing with issues within defined guidelines
Provide desktop lifecycle support services for the City of Edmonton business area through desk-side and remote support, troubleshooting and problem resolution
Use technical expertise to diagnose/troubleshoot system hardware, software and usage problems and recommend or perform remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge and corporate policy
Consult and provide advice to clients in proper use of standard software, hardware, operating systems, base image software applications, printers, peripherals and other end user tools
Maintain Remedy ticket queue handling, by scheduling, resolving and closing tickets in a timely fashion
Deployment of new or replacement desktops and laptops
Work with the supply vendor and the customer to ensure the technology or tools are functioning as expected for the customer
Assist in management, scheduling and deployment of new or replacement equipment
Perform routine equipment maintenance and upgrading, install, test, configure, deploy and maintain all hardware and software products and peripherals including printers
Assisting the customer with the hardware and software procurements, what to order and how
Desktop and other computer device configuration
Participate in implementing new products and setting new standards for client use.
Assisting the Desktop Administration team with hardware and software certifications and packages, creation of new base desktops
Participate as geographic client representative on any IT related projects through understanding of the client’s business
Assist the Desktop Infrastructure Upgrade project with the Windows 7 rollout
There will be times when this position may be required to work shift work

Qualifications:
Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade supplemented by a relevant technical computing Diploma/Certificate from a recognized Community College or Technical Institute required
Minimum of 6 months of directly related experience in desktop support/computer support role in a service environment is required
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with difficult often demanding customers
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Strong analytical skills with and problem solving capabilities
Ability to lean and adapt to new technologies quickly
Ability to install and maintain software and hardware devices
Ability to analyze, troubleshooting and resolving technical problems associated with hardware, software and other peripheral workstation problem
Candidates must be willing to be on-call (24X7) on a regular rotating basis
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.

Salary Range: 21B, Salary Grade: 017, $26.806 - $33.670 (Hourly). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton. This union contract is currently under negotiation.
