Pros: great pay, great benefits, constant challenges, fast paced and changing environment, ever expanding field, there is a lot of encouragement to advance, opportunity to meet a lot of people.
Cons: little balance between personal time and work time, expectation for longer hours than you are paid for, ever expanding expectations with accommodation, hard to find employees to help in this industry.
In this career, I have learned many things. I have learned about how to manage employees, and money. Loss prevention is a field that I have found some particularly interesting strategies in. This company is ever expanding and has the potential to be the number one gas station company in the United States. They have very high customer standards and do – more... not tolerate employees mistreating their customers. There is a lot of room for advancement in this company, but it would seem to be because the company puts too much pressure on their managers. There are several tasks that continue to be put on store manager, yet there are no additional hours or help offered to accommodate this. In addition, there is no balance between work and personal life. Of the vacation time given, it is really rare for a manager to be given the opportunity to take it. When someone calls in, it is even harder to find help to cover it, meaning that the store manager has to put in extra time that they do not get paid for. If they try to leave early to adjust for it, they are unofficially disciplined with extra work and harsh job criticism. The most enjoyable part of this job is the customers. Several of the people that come in are great to take care of. There are several that brighten the day with a smile, comment, or even a friendly hello. – less
