The Champlain Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) is one of fourteen CCACs in Ontario dedicated to supporting and enhancing the quality of life, independence, and health and well-being of individuals in the communities we serve by offering a single point of access for community services and demonstrating leadership and excellence in community care.

Geographically, Champlain is one of the largest CCACs, covering a region of over 18, 000 square kms and delivering care to 50,000 clients every year. Our region includes Ottawa, Eastern Counties, Renfrew County, and a portion of Lanark, North Leeds & North Grenville, spanning a diverse demographic population of both rural and urban clients.

We are currently seeking a full-time Quality and Risk Specialist located at our Head Office in Ottawa.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Safety, Risk and Accreditation, this position is responsible for assisting in the assessment, investigation and management of risks, and the development and implementation of procedures and programs related to quality and risk. This role will include education and leadership to staff in making quality improvement and risk management an integrated part of daily activities across the organization.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the development and implementation of a risk management framework, Enterprise Risk program and related initiatives and procedures
  • Supports the development, implementation, and ongoing work related to the organization’s quality plan, goals and objectives
  • Supports the development of policies and procedures and assists with implementation
  • Conducts risk assessments of processes or departments to identify high risk processes and make recommendations for improvement
  • Supports the ongoing development of adverse event and risk reporting and tracking, including system administration and customization, staff education, process review, report development
  • Identifies and communicates high risk events or concerns to the Director in a timely fashion
  • Makes recommendations related to quality improvement or risk management strategies
  • Consults with staff and Managers on low to medium risk cases, providing advice, resources and support as required
  • Supports the development and implementation of new standards for care of service that enhance quality
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with managers and staff to facilitate the spread of quality and risk awareness and culture across the organization
  • Provides a Quality and Risk Management perspective through participation on assigned committees, work groups and project teams

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Four (4) year University degree in a related discipline; OR
Three (3) year diploma in related discipline plus extensive related experience

EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience. Related experience in a healthcare environment.

LANGUAGE:
Oral fluency, reading and writing in English required. Fluency in French is considered an asset.

KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of risk management practices, standards tools including root cause analysis, failure modes and effect analysis, adverse event/significant event reporting, sentinel event analysis, claims management, emergency and disaster planning
Knowledge of emergency planning and response strategies and tools
Knowledge of relevant legislation
Knowledge of HIROC standards, Accreditation Canada process, and pertinent community programs
Experience in facilitating teams including conflict resolution
Experience in project management
Knowledge of risk and feedback software (ie. enterprise risk management software, occurrence tracking software)
Expert computer skills (MS Office including Access)

Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism

TRAVEL

Occasional travel required throughout the Champlain LHIN or province to participate in provincial activities
Valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle required
