Dead End Career
Business Analyst (Former Employee) –  Calgary14 February 2018
The Oil & Gas Industry is pretty much a dead end business to be involved in at least as an Employee of Cenovus. The pay was good, but the opportunities are limited to do anything meaningful. No budget for anything, everyone is afraid for their jobs the environment is horrible, both in the field and in the Calgary offices. I wouldn't reccomend this company until the environment for Oil & Gas improves.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Continous cost cutting and layoffs for 3 years and they are horrible at it.

The corporate ideology is great. Just needs more than lips service to back it up. Some people believe in a work/family balance and others put people after profits.

Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB12 December 2017
Management says "tell us what needs fixing so that we can address it", however those who speak up are alienated and in some cases laid off. Unfortunate that this has happened to a place that used to be looked as the most sought after employer in town.

Heavy Equipment Technician (Current Employee) –  Eckville, AB21 November 2017
This company has too much middle management and little to no direction from upper management. The company keeps going up for sale, and changing hands. This can make it a stressful work environment. The physical work itself is great.
Pros
good salary/benefits, good rotation
Cons
too much micromanaging

Cenovus is the best company I have worked at. Besides looking at the beautiful views from the magnificent architectural building, it was a fulfilling position. We helped keep workers safe and applied creative communication strategies.

Great place to work and learn
Local Community Relations Advisor (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB8 November 2017
Cenovus is a great place to work. The people there are fantastic and I learned a lot and made some great friends. Over the past 2 years the corporate environment has been awful and many people have been laid off. I do believe as Cenovus figures out what they want to be they will be a great company again.
Pros
Great people
Cons
Too much change and uncertainty

It is difficult to work away from home, but the company and coworkers were very good overall. A 7/7 shift with a 12 hour day is tough but very rewarding.

Sr. H&S Advisor based in field (Former Employee) –  Wabasca, AB30 August 2017
Great people, real family atmosphere. Managements philosophy of open and honest is a bit to their detriment because their peers are not doing the same.

All this being said the uncertainty of the future is too much to take I am moving on to a different company or industry.
