Manager of Hospice – Carefor Hospice Cornwall

Position (s): 1 Permanent Full Time Manager of Hospice
Location: Cornwall, Ontario

The Manager oversees all aspects of client care by managing the operations of the Hospice on an ongoing basis to assist with end of life care by ensuring that the necessary programs are in place and by supervising staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Carefor Hospice Cornwall policies and procedures
  • Practice within the framework of the CNO Professional Standards while maintaining currency and competency relative to nursing practice standards
  • Ability to use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care in a problem solving approach to meet clients’ physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs
  • Establish and maintain professional and collegial relationships with clients, families, physicians, healthcare team members, and all other related health disciplines
  • Provide in-home visits to assess admission eligibility of client to the facility and communicate with community hospitals, agencies, long-term care facilities, and physicians
  • Ensure that registered staff maintain current registration with CNO
  • Provide education, support, guidance to staff on an on-going basis
  • Intervene as necessary on issues relating to client complaints, staff concerns/conflicts, operational issues and any other issues related to the functioning of the facility – strong managerial skills
  • Understand and apply evidence-based measures related to infection control
  • Ensure adequate and appropriate staffing on a daily and ongoing basis based on client and census acuity
  • Submit monthly statistics, quality audits, and program evaluation reports

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited university (preferred) and/or current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Palliative Care Certification and Oncology Certification an asset
  • Community nursing experience an asset
  • 5 years of palliative care experience an asset
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, bilingualism is an asset (French/English)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, team building techniques with the ability to collaborate with all healthcare disciplines including volunteers
  • Effective problem solving and critical thinking skills to independently make decisions and adopt the actions to suit the situation
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills
