Work is challenging. Lots of different things to work on. Pay is okay, but they expect you to work 6 days a week and whenever they deem it necessary. When something takes longer than expected due to unforeseen circumstances management is quick to pass judgement. Get fired for not knowing how to rewire something that came from auction or for something that doesn't have decent prints. There is no Union, and the turnover rate is high in the maintenance department. They can't keep anyone talented because they have unrealistic expectations and no maintenance budget and a department manager who doesn't seem to know what's going on all the time. Your expected to rebuild equipment with parts scavenged off other equipment. If parts do come in its like seeing a Unicorn! Dirty, grimy and greasy work environment, with no praise whatsoever. Min 10 hour days, with one paid 10min coffee in morning and unpaid half hour lunch break. Poor communication between management and workers. Your just another expendable number here. Do it if you absolutely need a job, but keep searching for something better.

If you want to work in a place where there is no organization then this is where you will find it. They have high expectations in the maintenance department and cannot keep anyone and will terminate anyone for no reason. Managment is ridiculously underqualified and everyone is always anxious of losing there jobs. They purchase old equipment with no prints and safety is almost non existent at this place. To put it nicely DO NOT WORK HERE!
A great place, the most like i home ive ever worked, coworkers and managers are like family.

Lets face it, people dont fit in everywhere. We have our groups we get along best with. capital is no exception. If your a get done kind of guy or girl. Or the type to take the tasks your given and seek to be that tasks absolute Master then we want you. Hey listen our roof leaks, we swear a lot, if you put yourself in danger your gonna get screamed at probably seemingly picked on. but heres the thing, your our brothers our sisters, sons, and daughters. As quick as we are to correct you or get on you for being slow or unsafe. Were also rewarding of your loyalty, dependability, dedication. We will give you opportunitys no other company would, we will nurcher your personal growth, and train you for your position. When others would merely have you mop floors. here a floor sweeper who tries to be the best floor sweeper ever could tomorrow be starting training as an operator supervisor. Jobs can be taught, skills can be developed. But loyalty, dependability and dedication can not. So if you like camp pay, with home benefits, then we want you. If you dont mind working with an owner that started with a service van, then we want you If you feel like the product you help create is partly yours, we want you
All others need not apply this here is for people that are serious about what they do!!!!!!
Labourer (Current Employee) – Winnipeg, MB – 2 November 2017
If you enjoy a leaky/freezing cold building where every machine is second hand from another company and management that does not care about its employees then by all means apply here.
This company does not care about those that work for it. Learn a machine and do the job well but don't expect any kind of compensation when it comes to a pay raise for working harder.
Every machine in this building is second hand from someone else that has sold it through auction to get rid of their problem! But Capitol will buy it and try to bring it back to life...
The building is almost as old as Winnipeg which would be fine if it was actually maintained but its not... Every department has a leaking roof and at least 3 holes in the wall and that is being generous... There is no heat unless you work in the paint shop which is beyond dirty...
When it comes to working overtime, 10 hour days 5 days a week isn't enough for them. No you are expected to give up weekends too usually for doing something that, if proper planning had been done in advance, could have been taken care of during "normal" work hours...
All in all this place is a joke to put it nicely... DO NOT WORK HERE!
Very unsafe dirty place everyone is tense because the axe is always ready to fall jump before they get chance to push you
Labourer (Former Employee) – Wpg, MB – 19 October 2017
No organization, saftey very poor, management always ready to point the blame away from them only one 10min break plus 30min lunch for a10hr work day no second break even during ovetyime this place will not survive
No job security work place.. everyday you are endangered of losing your job for one small mistake.. they dont have union. I dont recommend them un less you are willing to live everyday in fear of losing your job anytime..
General Worker (Former Employee) – Winnipeg, MB – 14 September 2017
Your made to feel like part of the team when your hired. That only lasts a couple of hours. Supervisors are young and band together to cover up for eachother. Throwing fault on the workers and not taking responsibility for their inability to do their job. Workers themselves are great and very friendly. Company preaches they take H/S serious but thats only to secure contracts and if you raise a concern your shown the door. Do not...do not accept a job here!!
Wages arent to bad
Management and abuse of position to keep their jobs
You can learn how to operate several machines relevant to fabrication and erecting in the steel industry.
The management is very poor consisting primarily of one family which shirks responsibilities and blame nearly daily.
Hardest part? Waking up in the morning and hating myself everyday, the actual work was enjoyable, but pay/benefits and the management driving a bus over top of the employees at every possible moment wears you down.
Free Standup comedy every Thursday.
Poor pay, erratic overtime, asking/forcing employees to cancel holidays.
Unstable. Poor work environment. Poorly managed. Poor training structure, but very demanding supervision and policies. Quick to terminate rather than improve or correct staff capabilities. High employee turn overs - no appreciation shown to shop workers.
None, there are little or no incentives for shop employees to stay.
Recently all reviews and pay increases were placed on hold for an indefinate period, many have not seen a pay increase in 3+ years, except for friends or family of top management, not the most safe or healthy work environments.
