My job was exacting but I was not paid well and my job was given to a younger woman without my experience at the same wage I started with.
General Motors Assistant Accountant, Vernon, BC - October 7, 2012
A typical day for me would be to begin my work immediately. The salesmen would often stand around drinking coffee but my boss who was the accountant and I would begin our work immediately.
I learned how to run the Addox bookkeeping machine and how to keep accounts receivable individual work sheets per customer.
My accountant was a wonderful man who taught me with great patience and understanding. I was the only woman in the office and at first was expected to make the coffee for the whole office until they found out that I was a Mormon and didn't know how.
The hard part of my job was when I was going to go on maternity leave and my job was given to the daughter of the owner who had just gotten out of highschool, She didn't have any experience and yet was started at the same salary I was making after working for them for several years, My accountant's wife had died and he retired and I had to teach both the new accountant and my replacement how to do their jobs,
The most enjoyable part of the job was the dividing up of the burden of the work with my accountantant.
