The Translator-Reviser is responsible for performing and coordinating the translation and revision of a variety of English texts for CNA into French. As part of the Publications team, the translator-reviser works closely with English editors and designers to ensure production of high-quality French documents.


  • Translates and/or revises text such as publications, web documents, meeting minutes, correspondence, media releases, etc. as assigned by the Manager of Publications
  • Ensures the translations are adapted to target audiences and reflect the delivery method (i.e. oral or written)
  • Compares the French language translations against the final English version of the material to ensure accuracy, consistency, and ease of reading
  • Adapts, revises, edits and proofreads French language documents to ensure accuracy and that the content is grammatically correct
  • Ensures speeches are written for the appropriate audience and reflect the speakers capacity
  • Conducts terminology research
  • Maintains the CNA translation and terminology database and ensures consistency in CNA documents.
  • Responds to member and public enquiries concerning nursing terminology
  • Coordinates workflow with external translators and revisers when required
  • Provides consultation services to staff
  • Occasional work outside regular business hours


  • Bachelor's degree in translation
  • Five years of experience in translation
  • Experience in editing, revision and proofreading French language documents within a production publishing-oriented environment
  • Experience working with and updating terminology database software
  • Experience coordinating translation projects
  • Fluently bilingual (French and English)
  • Excellent command of French and English grammar and usage
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office products and knowledge of LogiTerm
  • Excellent skills in researching terminology
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, creative
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a publications team
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, including some time outside normal business hours

  • Ability to work in an association environment


  • Previous nursing, medical or health care translation experience
  • Certification by the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO)
