Position Summary and Job Magnitude

This position interacts with students and guests frequently and requires a degree of customer service in all situations. The Custodian is responsible for the daily cleaning of the building common areas and facilities grounds. The position includes heavy cleaning duties on floors, windows and equipment and performing some routine maintenance activities, notifying management of needed repairs.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

  • Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
  • Empty garbage and recycling
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
  • Clean windows and glass
  • Steam-clean or shampoo carpet, strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners solutions, and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Maintain an updated inventory of supplies and notify Manager of required supplies
  • Notify Manager or Supervisor concerning the need for repairs or renovations
  • Identify and implement process improvement and quality improvement initiatives
  • Perform outdoor duties, including lawn care and snow removal
  • Complete monthly fire inspections as required
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and custodial inspections
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or greater

Skills/Abilities: Must possess ability to perform physical tasks
Must possess superior positive attitude
Must possess the ability to work alone and in a team environment

Experience Required: Minimum 1 year experience in similar role an asset

Working Conditions

Hours per Week: Fulltime position: Scheduled 40 hours per week (Approx.) Part Time position: Scheduled 27 hours per week (Approx.)
Indoor/Outdoor: Indoor/Outdoor
Level of Interruption: Moderate level of interruption
Stress Level: Moderate overall stress level (May fluctuate with volume of business)
Travel Outside of Location: Minimal

Salary
