Camp Description: Camp Latona enjoys a rich history steeped in West Coast, BC, tradition and heritage. Serving youth from Vancouver and further afield for over 70 years, we offer an extraordinary career opportunity. Camp Latona is an island summer camp and year round rental facility, set on 118 acres of the North end of Gambier Island with waterfalls, lakes, creeks, rainforest and 3500 ft of oceanfront beach. We specialise in serving the individual needs of our campers and rental groups. Through our resident camp program, Outdoor Education Centre, weekend family camps and rental groups offerings, we serve over 2,000 individuals per year.

Latona Leadership Internship 2014: Camp Latona is currently seeking highly motivated, creative and exciting individuals to join our team as seasonal interns for the Spring/Summer Season. The successful applicants will be guided through personal growth and development in and complete the program with able to:

  • Demonstrate the principles of leadership and apply them in a variety of settings with diverse groups
  • Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of wilderness travel disciplines and be able to role model this proficiency to others.
  • Recognize and participate in the commercial aspects of the Outdoor Recreation Industry.
  • Effectively deliver information to a diversity of audiences in an outdoor recreation context.

Full training and in some cases certification will be provided in activity areas related to daily duties and first aid and all necessary areas. The successful applicant(s) will live and learn about leadership in the outdoor recreation, education, and hospitality industry in beautiful British Columbia. The internship will run from May through October and will be based primarily at our remote camp on Gambier Island, West Vancouver, accessible only by boat.

For the 2014 internship, interns will work the equivalent of 5 days each week. Employees will work and be involved with the retreat guests when they are at camp including program, food service, boating and site maintenance. Each candidate will have the opportunity to act as lead host under guidance of Camp Manager and Director. When an intern works over a weekend, he or she will still have the equivalent of 2 days off during the week. Compensation will include a weekly stipend including housing and food when groups are at camp. There are laundry services close to accommodation at camp and WiFi access for time not working. Staff will be provided with a microwave and have close access to a refrigerator, stove and oven.
