Pros: invited to most public functions.
Cons: a weekly newspaper publisher has to be on duty 24-hours and even field calls at home.
As publisher, I would hold meetings first with advertising staff and later with editorial staff to get an idea about their appointments. I would also give my input ad sales people and story ideas to reporters. I was also in charge of writing editorials.

The hardest part of the job was to ensure that the company had enough revenue every month to pay staff and cover other expenses.
The weekly newspaper business is very compettive and had to work hard to meet commitments.

Enjoyed being a publisher of a medium size town and the respect that was given to the position.

Solitary way to make money on your schedule

Pros: deliver when you want on a certain day
Cons: if it's -40 outside you still have to deliver
It is what it sounds like, mindless money. Sort then deliver flyers to certain adresses. You don't deal with people unless a recipient of the flyer talks to you. Good exercise. Gets very repeditive
