please listen to the author of this post he is being honest and truthful. I myself work at cabelas in Hamburg, Pa and the last assistant asset protection manager was great and awesome he was always around and their to help when needed. They lost an awesome asset to our company.

All I can say is "wow"! This is a ridiculous assessment! Having worked with the Asset Protection Manager at the Hamburg location, I can say that nothing in this post reflects the true nature of this manager. Let me address some of the inaccuracies here. The pay is commiserate with the position. Don't complain about the pay when that was your choice. A 45 hour work week is entirely possible, as long as you are able to organize what you need to accomplish. If you had to work 60, it's because you did not prioritize and did not accomplish what you needed to on a daily basis. As for training, let me tell you a story: I began with Cabela's as an Asset Protection Specialist in the Gonzales location with the manager you belittle as my supervisor. I was given training that was, by far, less than what I am sure you received, as I had a hand in the new training given to APS'. Still, at 5 months, I was promoted to a Sr. APS and then 2.5 months later, to an APM in the Hoffman Estates, IL, location. The manager that you have accused of not caring is the reason I was able to achieve my success. He provided the tools to do the job and the freedom to implement in my own way. He does expect you to take some initiative in both your training and your work ethics. Once I hit a new store, I was welcomed to the team, as a new person, but I had to incorporate myself into the team. You own that in any retailer. Having gotten my APS promoted to an AAPM position, I can tell you that if you were treated poorly, that is solely on you, as that AAPM is enjoying success at her new level. If you were not allowed to speak at morning meetings, I would challenge you on your ability to form partnerships, as I am sure a short conversation with your GM would have resolved that issue. If you were disrespected by an hourly APS, I fault you for failing to step up and demand the respect due to a person in your previous position. Your assertion of the manager's anger is laughable. We've all gotten excited in that office. Having worked in the office with the manager for almost 8 months, I never once witnessed the throwing of anything. I also know that this manager has not changed in the few short years that I have known him and that this is not his behavior. He is absolutely a team player and is always looking out for his team, but, as an APM, there is only so much that can be done to protect the direct reports. Mistakes are made and disciplinary action must be taken. Again, this is the case in any retail environment. I suspect that you were terminated because of the bitterness in your post, but I still find this whole tirade to be a farce. I, too, was terminated by Cabela's, but I do not hold any ill will towards anyone in the organization and would go back to work for the company in a heartbeat. Contrary to what you have stated, the company is very family-oriented and they push the outfitters, especially the management, to find a solid work-life balance. I further suspect that you performed poorly and were most likely hired in the 4th quarter or early 1st quarter, since you are complaining about training. Sorry to tell you that we typically do not devote a huge amount of time into training new AP personnel during those times because the 4th quarter is externally driven and the start of the first is inventory-focused. I did the same thing with my APS (who I'll remind you was promoted to an AAPM at 9 months). Don't take your inability to perform up to standards out on a manager you apparently know little about, or a company that I suspect you had little time with which to orient yourself. For those concerned, if you have the drive to succeed and don't need or want your hand held, this IS the organization for you!

i worked for that company for 8 years...management is a definite problem...love and miss my co-workers....still talk to them all...i was one of the best admins in the company and had to deal with schedule changes, poor management and very unprofessional management...i hope you find better! best of luck!

I couldn't have said it any better myself. To many people just walking around collecting a paycheck getting recognition while the ones doing all the work just get more frustrated.
