Job Description


Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Specialist will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department and assists with carrying out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Human Resources Information, Compensation and Payroll, Benefits and Pension Plans, Attendance Management, Labour Relations, Recruitment and Policy Development.


  • Responsible for sourcing, screening, interviewing and recruiting of applicants for all open positions
  • Act as a liaison between managers and staff addressing employee

relations issues including discipline, attendance management and conflict resolution

  • Participates in workplace investigations for all Bill 168 claims
  • Interact with the Labour Relations Board in order to address the possible unionization of the workforce and participate in collective bargaining process if necessary
  • Oversee payroll process using ADP pay@work including taxable benefits, deductions and generating necessary reports
  • Supports the design and development of training programs to be used in the organization
  • Coordinate with WSIB related matters including FAFs, Form7s and Return to Work plans
  • Ensures changes to individual benefit coverage levels, salary changes, beneficiary changes are implemented and validates all coverage levels, billings and records
  • Reviews, revises, develops and implements new and existing HR policies in coordination with the HR Manager
  • Temporary Foreign Worker program including VISAs, work permits and all immigration compliance

Knowledge and Skills

  • University degree in Business Administration or Human Resource Management
  • CHRP designation is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in Human Resources
  • Knowledge of related legislation such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Ontario Labour Relations Act and Employment Standard Act; demonstrated judgment and ability to critically assess options within the context of applicable legislation
  • Computer literacy and proficiency utilizing MS Office software applications and adaptability to program specific software
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to meet strict and time sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to work with personal information and maintain strict confidentiality
